As for doing it in a way that's fairly merciful, I carry diabetic supplies on me a lot; and if there was a stick around, I could draw up a high dosage of insulin and pin one to the ground long enough to do an injection; but hopefully, I'll never be in that position.
You have a really old calendar and you think this is April 1st, right? I can't think of any other reason anyone with any sense would get themselves and a friend far away enough to be safe, then approach the rattler, magnifying the risk to themselves around 1000%, pin it down, and give it insulin to euthanize it when y'all were already safe?

Be sure to carry plenty of insulin so if she then tells you that she feels threatened by you, you'll have enough to do the job JK, but seriously, if her expectation is that you kill anything she finds threatening, find another GF. Now.

I'd also like to point out that, as someone who has survived an insulin overdose, I can tell you that it is definitely not a good way to go. Far from the humane death that rarejewels imagines. And as someone who has provided IV medication to snakes, I'll tell you that it is extremely challenging if you don't have a second person to hold the animal down. I doubt that the wimpy girlfriend in the hypothetical scenario has the guts or know-how to restrain a venomous snake.

I think this is a great answer. Especially if the snake is living near a playground or similar, relocating seem to be a good way to handle the issue. You can call in local snake people/authorities who will have experience and know where to safely relocate. We actually have an expert as a member here, Tim Cole, I've invited him to say something and hope he will come here.
