jcp on cedar shavings

im looking to buy a jcp theres a pretty cheap vpi one locally but they have it on cedar i dont know how long its been on cedar, its about 2.5 feet and i guess about a year old, i was wondering how long it takes to do any permanent damage, if i bought it and put it on an appropriate substrate and kept it healthy would i have a good chance of becoming healthy(how long would that take) or would i be plagued by vet visits and bad health and a short life for the lil guy?

If it were me I would pass. If this person is not aware of the problems cedar could cause there are possibilities that they are lacking in other husbandry issues and you could be setting yourself up for a headache.

I agree with Dave. Pass. It will be cheaper in the long run. It's hatchling season now and the early hatchlings should be ready soon if not already. Do yourself a favor and buy from someone who knows what they are doing.

Kevin,

Have you advised the owner of the hazards of cedar bedding so that the problem can be corrected immediately and not repeated with other animals? Please do that ASAP!

i have informed the person of the risks, i jus feel bad for the snake and kind of want to save it from the bad stuff and help it have a healthy life, it is from a person not a dealer so its not like im helping a big business that doesnt care about animals, i dont know if i could afford vet visits so soon after i bought it if i needed to, so i dont know if me taking it would be a wise decision anyway, when do hatchlings start to go on sale?

hatchlings are already available from many people. of course, if you are specifically looking for VPI babies - contact them. there are plenty of big names dealing with JCPs, and even more "small" names. and that doesn't even touch on the JCP/diamond intergrades. look around a bit, they're out there.

im not really lookin for any bloodline in particular, i jus want a nice looking high contrast jungle, i only have found this guy here and another guy(which i trust a lot, he has helped me with the questions and has records of sheds/feeds since it was born) but by the looks of the parents it wont hold color very well, and that snake will be a bit more mostly kuz shipping. id feel better goin with him. does anybody know any trustable jungle breeders, i dont really know wut to search to find em and i cant really find any, i think vpi stopped producing jungles too
