Question Taming help: Tame lizard escaped and was found but now completely wild. Help?

I have an asian water monitor that unfortunately escaped and was in the wild of my neighborhood for 3 DAYS until he was THANKFULLY found. He was a very tame, easy going lizard at 3.5ft and 2 yrs old. Since I got him back it seems like we are at ground zero again and he is completely wild and agressive. It breaks my heart. I'm thankful to have him back, no complaints there, but I'm just wondering if anyone has experience with this sort of thing or if there's anything special I could do to help him get back to how he was before. Poor guy has lost his confidence and hisses and is terrified of everything
Thank you.

Most likely from being exposed to natural sunlight and a taste of freedom.

Amazing that you found him. You are not the first to have this happen with the same monitor species. I have seen this happen alot if you dig through different forums. I hope your water monitor comes back to where he was. Please keep us updated.

How's the monitor? Did he eventually calm down or what?
