Of particular importance is the REQUIREMENT that you provide your REAL full name upon registering. Sorry, but this is not like other sites where anonymity is more the rule.
Also your TRUE location is important. If the location you enter in your profile field does not match the location of your registration IP address, then your registration will be rejected. As such, I strongly urge registrants to avoid using a VPN service to register, as they are often used by spammers and scammers, and as such will be blocked when discovered when auditing new registrations.
Sorry about all these hoops to jump through, but I am quite serious about blocking spammers and scammers at the gate on this site and am doing the very best that I can to that effect. Trust me, I would rather be doing more interesting things with my time, and wouldn't be making this effort if I didn't think it was worthwhile.

Ray Torres of Ray's Reptilia.....
I have a complaint/warning to issue concerning Ray Torres of Ray's Reptilia....last week I purchased a snake from Ray. He was prompt in answering my e-mails and was very cordial. I had noticed that he had a good guy post here on the BOI and after discussing the snake with him, I felt comfortable enough to go ahead with the purchase. I sent him the money via PayPal and all was good....we arranged a shipping arrival date for yesterday (11/4/04)........I had asked Ray on Tuesday/Wednesday (can't remember, will check exact dates of e-mails) what carrier he planned on using and if he would provide me with a tracking number....I got no response....I was expecting the snake to arrive before 10:30 am as most overnight shippings occur.....10:30 am on Thursday rolls around, no snake yet.....11:30, no snake.....I have to leave for work at 12 pm so I cannot wait any longer for the snake to arrive. Luckily there was someone else at my house to receive the snake when it arrived eventually at 1:30 PM.
What disturbed me greatly when I came home shortly after the snake arrived at my home was the carrier he used.....he shipped the snake via the United States Postal Service! It was a Priority package, and I know this can sometimes take 1-3 days to arrive....not only was the carrier unacceptable, but the box was VERY poorly packaged.....there was absolutely no padding, no insulation, nothing in the box except a small tupperware with aspen.....but no snake either!!! The snake had escaped the container and was crawling around inside the box!!! What also troubled me was the temperatures for yesterday....it was in the 40's when the snake arrived with no heat pack. Both myself and the snake are lucky she survived the trip.
In truth, the snake seems no worse for wear and is very nice looking, but I cannot keep my mouth shut when an animal is shipped in such a deplorable fashion. I would not purchase from him again unless he drastically changes his shipping methods.
I have e-mailed Ray several times since yesterday and I have yet to hear from him.....he was VERY quick to answer my e-mails when I was inquiring about and purchasing the animal, but he disappears when a problem arises? Not good IMO.
Also, I noticed he placed another ad for the exact same snake I purchased from him on KS.com yesterday.....same picture, same info.....same snake. This also troubles me quite a bit.....why is that snake up for sale if I have it??

When I was at the local post office today
there was a lady there that was getting a snake sent by this guy. I don't know what kind of snake it was, but it was in an Express Mail box, and had sat at the post office for a while. It has been 38 degrees here for 3 days.
The box obviuosly had no padding or anything to support the snake, as when she shoke the box (at my request lightly) the snake was clearly shifting around within the box.
In my honest opinion this guy is a complete SCUMBAG!!
Why do I say this:
1) You don't send snakes through USPS.
2) You put some insulation in the box to secure the animal.
3) You look at a funny thing called the "weather channel" and determine if a heat pack is needed and packed accordingly.
You Ray in my opinion are a complete.............well you fill in the blanks.

David you sure have some crappy luck. Do you ever have any good deals, or just not post those on the BOI? Of the all the threads you have started on the BOI, only one was a good guy thread.
I'm not trying to start anything with you, but it may be time to take a look at your past transactions and see if there is some sort of pattern that you can change. You seem like a decent guy, I hate to see you get burned repeatedly.

Sam, this thread is a few months old....but to answer your question, yes I have had my fair share of good deals. There are numerous occasions where I have posted positive feedback on people I have done business with....here are some examples:
Napa Valley Snakes
Pasco Paul
John Manser
Steven Barnes
Casey Hulse
So, you see.....most times the negative deals get far more attention than the good ones. You win some, you lose some...usually it turns out well in the end. Thank you for your kind words, I appreciate them.

David, sorry I didn't check the date of the original posting. I do agree with you in that I think the bad guy posts likely get more attention than a good guy post. It's just human nature I suppose. Like they say, Do something good and 10 people will hear about it, do something bad and 100's will hear.......
Myself, I like to see the good guy posts, especially helpful when I'm looking to do business with a person!

Hi,
I know this thread is old, but I have a question:
Dave, don't jump on me, I agree with your post, but I have a question for the general public...I have a question about this statement in particular that GregH made?
"1) You don't send snakes through USPS."
Why not? I can understand that in some cases its obvious that you should send an animal overnight (high dollar animal, extremely sensitive etc.), but whats the problem with Priority mail if the weather is favorable and the animals are hardy? I used to ship live fish this way all the time. Properly packaged it was extremely reliabe...in fact it was the preferred method because it was the least expensive...have laws changed, or is this just a shift in public opinion? (I admit that I am not as familiar with shipping live fish as i used to be....pre 9-11)

Shawn,
Because sending snakes USPS is expressly prohibited by the law and it’s thus a federal offense to do so.

Sam,
There might be a different interpretation also. Let me give you an example. You don’t pass a car while driving on the highway, roll your window down and shout out loud “DO YOU NEED SOME HELP”. It is obvious there are riding right along and are doing fine. Now if you see a person with his car parked, the hood lifted, while he stares at the engine you may want to stop and offer your assistance.
Just because you care and try to help a person in need doesn’t mean you are focusing on the bad, you just choose to help where your help is needed. Do I check the good guy threads? Of course, particularly those that I have never dealt with, but my objective there is to make a more informed decision in the event of future purchases.
Best regards.

THis iS Ray From Rays reptilia
I am a good business person and have had several hundred happy customers .I send these animals out with the greatest of care and with the greatest of intentions I pad the boxes with newpaper and I place heat packs in the cages whenver neccesary. The initial animal that was spoken about in this post arrived alive and well and the customer was happy with it.As for the aniaml that arrived yesterday in Texas That package was quadruple lined with foam packing and the animal was safe and secure in a padded deli cup in the center. If you heard something move it was most likely the heat pack ..How you can make an assumption and pass judgement on me or any other herper from only hearing one side of the story is beyond me ..I too have read many of the posts on here and see that there are some folks who just dont have anything better to do than to write their opinions w/o having nearly all the facts...
As for the young lady in Texas they where so happy with their purchase that they bought another snake from me today.I shipped it to them in the same fashion as the first ....
I don't have time to play these games so I will not be answering any more of these silly threads...
To call someone names and not have all the facts is just ignorant !!!
