And for those very various reasons I must disagree. There is far more than just a bit of info out there on voids.

This guy, while I personally find him closely akin to the scum in particularly fetid water, I have nothing personal against.

While emotion may be a deciding factor in some, for me it isn't. I don't like what he supports. I don't like the people he supports. I don't like the way he supports them. THIS guy is one of the bad guys as are THOSE he supports. THIS is not in question.

Whom we associate with, from whence comes our cash, says a great deal about what kind of person we are. Well, the we is perhaps a bit much but I suspect you get my drift well enough.

See I did not bother reading much of what this person has posted here simply because I do not wish to see anything he says........ Had I done so I would probably be agreeing with you. I'm simply basing my opinion on the topic and subject matter, not the person. Just thought I'd clear that up so my opinion "made a bit more sense" lol

Chris,

I suggest that you click on the banner the next time that you see it and see who he supports as dealers in venomoids. You will see some names that may make you think twice about your position.

Rich used the term "slippery slope" when he and I communicated privately about this matter shortly before this thread was started. I respect that he feels that denying reyna advertising space could very well be the beginning of just such a thing. Some risks are worth taking. Rich has decided not to take that risk. That is entirely his choice. I just happen to disagree with his decision.

Since this apparently did not sink in to some people, let me repeat it:

Do I disallow ads by people competing with my own reptile business? Do I block ads from people who may have a questionable reputation? Do I block advertising from people I just don't like personally? Once I put my foot on that slippery slope, where will I end up once I start sliding down the hill?

If 10 people think I should remove an ad, is that enough? Or should 20 be required? And what criteria should I use in choosing who can make that sort of decision? Run a poll for each and every advertiser?

Sorry, but no. I set up the FaunaAds site to be pretty much self service, and I intend on keeping it that way. Unless something is pretty much universally accepted as being offensive to the general public (porn sites, etc.) then I am not going to do anything at all about it.

And to be honest, I would prefer for the most part that people just make their own decisions about what they do or do not do. So if you see an ad that you find offensive, just don't click on it. If the advertiser is not getting any hits, they will soon quit the advertising anyway. If they do get the hits, well then, what is that telling you?
You are perfectly welcome to disagree with my opinion, but quite frankly NO ONE has presented a logical argument that was anything other then "I don't like this person or what he stands for". I am sure there are other people here that some people would feel the same way about. And there are people here that would feel the same way about one or more persons posting on this very thread. Sorry, but my intention is to be fair and impartial in as many ways as possible in how this site is run. That certainly has to include my not jumping on any bandwagon (or lynch mob, if you prefer) about some issues that are hot topics in their eyes. Some of you are requesting that I be a judge in this issue and decide the worthiness of someone running advertising here. I believe you can go all the way back to day one of the BOI and make note of my statement that I will NOT take up the gavel and act in such a manner. This has not changed, and is not likely to change within my lifetime. I fully expect everyone to make their own decisions about such things without my making proclamations of the sort that someone is not worthy of being here based on some criteria of the moment that some people, even a majority, may deem as relevant.

Here's a clue, Greg: When you are viewing your own warning points, click on the link that says "View Post" and it will display the post the warning point(s) apply to. Go ahead and tell me THAT post was not off topic within the thread you posted it in, please.

I will say I was disappointed to see the ad also, but I respect Rich's choice to allow it.

The sad thing is, however, that even though Reina has stopped "trolling" (for the moment anyway) he's still getting his much desired attention with this thread.

"but quite frankly NO ONE has presented a logical argument that was anything other then "I don't like this person or what he stands for". "

Hmmm. It would appear to me that the argument would be that I happen to feel that elective surgery on hapless animals to protect the imbecilic would be considered wrong...by most animal keepers.

But then, I don't have a clue, do I ?

Please stay on topic!..lol..this isn't about how wrong venomoids is for our hobby.....It's about making the right decisions based on one's own morals and ethics.......Maybe Webslave should apply his own personal bias when making decisions who advertises here....unless he already is and doesn't see anything wrong with venomoids. I for one wouldn't have a problem if he didn't allow people like Christian to advertise the irresponsible act of venomoid surgery.....I have a feeling alot more folks wouldn't hold it against him but I guess that wouldn't be the "right thing" to do....

man....this thread shouldn't even be here...........

Most think it was a bad moral decision to allow the ad. But On one hand its money earned threw advertising. On the other hand it offends some paying members to the site. So keeping or renewing the ad a good or bad business decision?

Also this some what apply's to the topic . I have seen a lot of ads for fire arms. Now me personally I have no problem with it. But I know a few people who were turned off by it . So much that they don't really want to do business here because of it. Just wondering everyone's opinions on that. I don't think it was a big enough issue to open a thread.

To be honest....I kind of feel that firearms should be advertised somewhere else too.....but isn't that site Rich's too? What do firearms have to do with reptiles???? I have nothing against guns as my Grandfather was a very well known gunsmith but Rich might as well allow the advertising of porn....

This whole thread is really kind dead.....

Rich has made his decision and I can gripe and moan about it but I know it won't do any good except get people pissed off....including myself....

OK, I will try to be fair about this. Prove to me that this is such a hot issue to the majority of the people here and not just a handful that this is a major hot button with. At the moment there are over 23,000 registered members on this site. Show me that even a significant fraction of the people registered here feel the way you do and I will consider it. By "significant" I mean at LEAST 10 percent. Any less then that, sorry, but you just aren't proving the case that this is the deadly hot (no pun intended) issue you make it out to be.
