Well said, Dan, well said. The crux of the matter is do we eliminate a system designed to help those who have fallen upon rough times due to a few bad apples who abuse that system? As one who recently had a friend with a college degree in commercial aviation seek unemployment just to put food on the table, despite applying to dozens of jobs in the area and trying desperately to find employment, I can attest that not everyone in welfare or unemployment or disability are abusing the system (in fact, that friend of mine is only making ends meet right now because I am allowing him to live in my house for free and I am purchasing all the food).

Does the system need more policing? Perhaps, but please don't assume that everyone using governmental programs wants to be using governmental programs. I was a week away from homeless once, and that was after I earned my Ph.D. These are scary, actually quite terrifying, economic times. Be grateful that you don't have to make these tough decisions. I almost had to sell all my personal belongings and live in a tent on state land just to pay my college debt, until a miracle happened and I landed a post doc.

Who here is attacking those in need of assistance?
The commentary in the OP was very clear on who's
rolling on 24's. Those that need do not instill generational believe
and exceptance as "the way" to the american dream.

When 95% of the apples are rotten it's time to throw the whole bushel out.

FYI my parents and grand mother worked the system like a cheap hooker working the corner. Iyself refuse to use the system in any way , shape or form.

I did taxes for 6 years, had about 200 clients every year. You would be shocked at how many actually told me they either had children or were planning to just so they could get more tax credits and gov't assistance. It was A LOT of people...and that is a terrible mentality to encourage. I also had a friend who was applying for financial aid to go to college...her parents were out of the picture, she was 18 working her way through school and was told by the financial aid person that she should get pregnant so she could qualify.

Maybe I just don't get it because I don't have kids, but I do not understand why we have a system that essentially rewards irresponsible decisions. I don't have kids, I have a job, I pay for health insurance even though it's been a stretch at times (and it's crappy insurance) and I probably could not afford my medical bills if something major happened. But if I had a kid, I'd qualify for medicaid. I was told after I graduated and had trouble finding a job, that job placement assistance would have been available if only I had a kid...they actually said that. I just find that super irritating, especially since I don't want to have kids and have gone to a good deal of effort (and expense) to make sure I don't.
