Alligator bites man’s face at Florida disc golf park

LARGO, Fla. (WFLA) — A man was retrieving a Frisbee at a disc golf course in Florida when an alligator bit him in the face, sending him to the hospital.

The man was at John S. Taylor Park in Largo around 5 a.m. when he went waist deep into water to retrieve a Frisbee, police said.

While retrieving the equipment, police said an alligator bit him in the face but he managed to pry himself free and escape the water.

The man was transported to a local hospital with face and hand lacerations but is expected to recover.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is investigating.

It gets quite toasty in Florida during the summer so it wouldn't surprise me if people regularly exercised outside at 0500.

I would think that unless the golf course heavily sprays for them, mosquitoes would put quite a damper on the fun. Especially since it was obviously a wet area, and before dawn, which would be prime time and location for the mosquitoes to be active.

They seem to be tapering off around here, which is suprising with all the rain we had last week, but still, no way I would want to be walking down to our temporary pond during oh-dark-thirty timeframes. I would be diving into the water to escape the skeeters, gators and all....

Of course, alcohol would dim the senses, including skeeter bites, quite a bit.

I broke down once at 2 am on St Johns bridge between Jacksonville and OrangePark, Florida. I had to run to nearest exit or I wouldn't have had any blood left from mosquitoes.
