For FedEx, that seems about right for a 20 pound package. I did a quote just because and got the similar rates. Even for UPS and DHL.

Unfortunately that does sound accurate. I remember when overnight shipping was a flat $20-25 from anybody. Now unless you're shipping a few hatchlings or a pair of adult colubrids it's become cheaper to use Delta. I haven't sent a package so far this year for less than $45 I don't think.

A few weeks ago I shipped a dozen or so adult cornsnakes. The box weighed 13-15 pounds, something like that, and the shipping charge was a little over $80. That's including the discount for processing the shipment online.

Between the fuel surcharge, the pick up fee, the extra charge for residential delivery, and the annual increases in the shipping fees themselves, the days of the overnight shippers being a bargain are over. The only reason to use them at all anymore is the lack of a required trip to the airport.
