Hello!
Either you have not registered on this site yet, or you are registered but have not logged in. In either case, you will not be able to use the full functionality of this site until you have registered, and then logged in after your registration has been approved.
Registration is FREE, so please register so you can participate instead of remaining a lurker....
Please note that the information requested during registration will be used to determine your legitimacy as a participant of this site. As such, any information you provide that is determined to be false, inaccurate, misleading, or highly suspicious will result in your registration being rejected. This is designed to try to discourage as much as possible those spammers and scammers that tend to plague sites of this nature, to the detriment of all the legitimate members trying to enjoy the features this site provides for them.
Of particular importance is the REQUIREMENT that you provide your REAL full name upon registering. Sorry, but this is not like other sites where anonymity is more the rule.
Also your TRUE location is important. If the location you enter in your profile field does not match the location of your registration IP address, then your registration will be rejected. As such, I strongly urge registrants to avoid using a VPN service to register, as they are often used by spammers and scammers, and as such will be blocked when discovered when auditing new registrations.
Sorry about all these hoops to jump through, but I am quite serious about blocking spammers and scammers at the gate on this site and am doing the very best that I can to that effect. Trust me, I would rather be doing more interesting things with my time, and wouldn't be making this effort if I didn't think it was worthwhile.

To clarify, the Bureau of Land Management falls within the Department of Interior. This acquisition of materials is most likely for the Law Enforcement division within the Forest Service, which is now part of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Honestly, considering the huge cuts the Forest Service has been suffering over the past decade, I'm glad to see they've finally gotten the money to update their gear. I worked as a university contractor for the USDA Forest Service on a system-wide safety program, and the tales from the law enforcement division were simply scary because they were stretched so dang thin. USDA Forest Service needs law enforcement because you'd be surprised how many people try to do illegal activities on Forest Service lands, not the least of which are drug runs.

This was their written response according to Politico.
Quote:
USDA responded to POLITICO by explaining that there are more than 100 agents employed by the law enforcement division of the department’s Office of the Inspector General who carry such weapons because they are involved in the investigation of criminal activities, including fraud, theft of government property, bribery, extortion, smuggling and assaults on employees. From fiscal 2012 through March 2014, OIG investigations pertaining to USDA operations have netted more than 2,000 indictments, 1,350 convictions and over $460 million in monetary results, the OIG told POLITICO in a subsequent email.

Call me a crazy conspiracy loon, but I don't trust that's the whole scoop... Upgrading gear to stop drug runners in forest lands. I hope I'm wrong, but methinks there's more to it. Time will tell. In the meantime, I'm upgrading my gear too.

Yeah, but too bad that the government has all but outlawed full automatic weapons, and caused the ones that are still available (meaning transferable to citizens) to be exorbitantly expensive because of the very limited numbers.

Yes, well... There are ways around that. Did you know flame throwers are perfectly legal to own without any permits or licenses?
Did you know you can buy two Ruger .22 Rifles and a kit that turns them into a Gatling gun?
Be creative!
There's lots of legal and not so legal things you can do on the fly if the need arises.
ETA: Automatics are great for wasting ammo. I can't see their practicality unless you anticipate a full on assault of more than 4 attackers. They sure are fun to shoot though.
