Thank you, AbsoluteApril! I will read that very carefully.

... not trying to ruffle any feathers, but I am curious as to why the attachment method is preferred over BBcoding images from a member's album? I am trying to learn the layout of the forum's coding, but I am unfamilar with this version of vB. I don't want to get in trouble for trying to learn.

My apologies again to all.

The reason for using that function on the BOI instead of regular member photo links or photobucket links, etc is because the photos posted via a link can be deleted in the future whereas a photo uploaded via the attachment function is permanent. I hope that helps explain. No feathers ruffled, please feel free to ask questions, we'll help if we can.

Thank you for that, AA...

My reason for asking is because I never use the attachment method within a forum, since I load pics onto the forum itself. Using BBCode is easier for me, and I was thinking since the pics are sourced from the forum, it'd be OK.

I understand now the coding is frowned upon because of pic-hosting sites. (I use those as well)

I'll be testing the attachment-loading system next.

Thanks again!

Yeah, the problem with linking to images hosted on other sites is not only because the person who is in control of their hosted account on another site can delete, edit, or replace them at will (which can cause evidence posted on the BOI to become absent, useless, or even compromised), but history has shown us that many internet image hosting services will very often block the remote viewing of images hosted on their sites after a period of time. So these all then become blank spots in the posts made in threads that originally showed helpful and/or interesting images. Sometimes to the point where the thread doesn't even make any sense any longer.

Push come to shove, it's just a destructive practice that degrades the usefulness of information posted here. Just because something was posted 10 years ago doesn't make it any less valuable to someone actually looking for such info, and found it here via a search. But it is certainly frustrating if a point being made by using an image to explain or detail it no longer remains for a person to view. So I have tried to take steps to encourage using a method that could help circumvent this particular problem.

Thank you, Webslave.

Understandable about the pic-hosting sites and losing links, etc. Hard to keep a permanent record on threads when the pics disappear.

Love the fact that once posted, it can't be deleted.

.. even my spider pic... LOL.
