My first non-ball python, lol

Not sure if this belongs here, or in the general Pythons forum, so sorry if it's in the wrong place. I just got this Irian Jaya female yesterday, and I must say I'm hooked I think she's adorable. She's 3 mos old, so I'm guessing she's still going to change color more. I'm also wondering what you feed your hatchlings. I've been told to feed something 2x as big as she is. Is that right? She's sooo much smaller than my BP hatchlings, so I'm a little worried (probably unjustified, but I can't help it). Anyways, thanks for looking!

Congrats! Carpets are awesome snakes. The hatchlings I've had I just started them on hopper mice and have never had a problem.

Finally you got a real snake lol

Very nice color. Definitely a beautiful snake. When I first got my Bredli he was 6 months old and easily feeding on hoppers. I would just ask the breeder or person you got the lil guy from what he was eating. Just a heads up, carpets, IMHO, have a very aggressive feeding response compared to your ball pythons. Good luck.

She's supposed to be eating hoppers...it's just surprising that she's eating the same thing I start my hatchling BPs on. She's so much more slender! Thanks for the link, btw

I would try getting her on pinky or fuzzy rats. Making the switch later on can be a pain, I have all of my carpets on rats and some are right around the same size/age as yours.

She ate a pinky rat for me. I figured it was worth a shot since I was low on hoppers, and she ate it right away. I can't wait to see how her color will change as she grows...I find myself watching her all the time.
