Out of the mouth of babes! LOL

I was checking on some of the girls, who's ovulating, who's working on eggs, and how many, etc. I notice one of the girls is ready to breed. Now my son is on my computer in my office typing up a paper due tomorrow, he's 8. Well my racks are in my office, so I take the tub into the other room and put the male in with the female. I close the tub and place it on the coffee table so I can see how she reacts to the male. Nothing going on, then my son calls me into my office to print the paper for him. He runs out of the room so he can sneak on cartoon network on the TV. All of a sudden my son is laughing and screaming, mommy, mommy, come here this is funny. I come in there and he turns the tub so I can see, and says "Looks ones on top of the other!" I try to hide my expresion, then he asks "Is that what they call sexing?" So a small Birds and the Bees talk was in order. However it wasn't all that detailed, only that they were breeding so the female can lay eggs. No other questions came from my son, so I think I'm in the clear for now. I was hoping that the subject of sex would first come up about the geckos, so it's more natural when the "Big Talk" came. But I was almost in tears.

LOL my fourth grade science teacher kind of told us about that stuff.

I found it much easier with my sons because I had reptiles...It was dragons first and they are NOT quiet about mating so I was able to explain what was going on and It went very well.

That's what I was thinking too. I wasn't sure, but I figured breeding the geckos and him seeing things happen, like the eggs coming and in the incubator and hatching etc. I figured the porn wouldn't come this soon, gecko porn that is.

I think my kids were about the same age as yours is when The lizard porn started going on and now they are used to it...when i was breeding geckos...every now and then I would her..."Ma.... their doin it again" and when I was working my youngest would call me and let me know who hatched and did I set up the tank right...He Would take out the baby dragons and put them in the tank and wet the paper towels and put the lights on for them. They tend to see it as a natural thing and not something that is weird and after a while the questions stop ...they almost figure it out for themselves with just s few questions and you just really have to answer as honestly as you think they can handle.

How did you explain the two hemipenes thing to them? My son was laughing his butt off.

I told them what they were and yeah they will laugh..I told him think of it this way..when they really gotta pee they can do it twice as fast...LOL that seemed to satisfy him.My older son...well he is 16...says..."lucky damn geckos" Its just answering what you can without giving out TOO much info when they are still too young to really understand it.

This is a wonderful funny and bittersweet post
I guess that they all have to grow up sometimes (humans) and not ever being blessed with human children- I can only look in from the outside with envy and awe
I think that the way that kids assimilate info and experiences is an awesome They seem so matter the fact-they just take stuff in stride that I see their parents sweating over about explaining to them
Chances are these days that they know it all anyway
