Sorry about all these hoops to jump through, but I am quite serious about blocking spammers and scammers at the gate on this site and am doing the very best that I can to that effect. Trust me, I would rather be doing more interesting things with my time, and wouldn't be making this effort if I didn't think it was worthwhile.
If the substrate is dried out enough, then it definitely sounds like you need bigger holes. When I did the tinfoil/duct tape thing on my lids, I only did about 3/4 of it, the last 3/4 was open. There was open area around the lamp so some heat/humidity could escape. You could try adding a thin layer of those bark chips over the coconut husk on both sides of the tank so that they aren't laying on it directly.
