Need Help for LEO! Abscess!

Monday I noticed a little bump on his upper lip. Last night it was more noticable. I consulted my books and I figured it could be Stomatitis (Mouth rot). I cleaned it with peroxide and placed him back in his cage. This morning I took him out to clean it again and the mass came off.

I am guessing it was an abscess. The crusty hard part has come off and it is a little red underneath. I applied more peroxide and returned him to his cage.

Should I make a vet appointment or will it heal up now?

I have read that you dont want to use a certain kind of neosporin, anyone know which one?

What could have caused this? Nothing has changed in his environment. I have had him for 3+ years. I am guessing maybe he injured himself.

Mouth rot would have a white, cheesy substance inside the mouth as well, especially around the gums. Perhaps it was an injury? At any rate, you can use peroxide and iodine together with a swab, but not antibiotic ointment for the mouth as it can be toxic if ingested. If it doesn't heal up, a vet visit would be in order.

OK, I wondered about the ointment in the mouth. I will just keep it really clean. Can I just use peroxide? I went to the drug store to check on Betadine and all they had was the 10 lifetimes supply bottle for $18.00.

What about chlorhexadine? I have read that some vets have used it as a flush for oral injuries on snakes. I keep it stocked.

I was thinking about any changes recently and he did shed last week. Could a stuck piece of shed have caused something like this. I keep a really close eye on my herps and this blindsided me.

Thanks for the help.
