Hello!
Either you have not registered on this site yet, or you are registered but have not logged in. In either case, you will not be able to use the full functionality of this site until you have registered, and then logged in after your registration has been approved.
Registration is FREE, so please register so you can participate instead of remaining a lurker....
Please note that the information requested during registration will be used to determine your legitimacy as a participant of this site. As such, any information you provide that is determined to be false, inaccurate, misleading, or highly suspicious will result in your registration being rejected. This is designed to try to discourage as much as possible those spammers and scammers that tend to plague sites of this nature, to the detriment of all the legitimate members trying to enjoy the features this site provides for them.
Of particular importance is the REQUIREMENT that you provide your REAL full name upon registering. Sorry, but this is not like other sites where anonymity is more the rule.
Also your TRUE location is important. If the location you enter in your profile field does not match the location of your registration IP address, then your registration will be rejected. As such, I strongly urge registrants to avoid using a VPN service to register, as they are often used by spammers and scammers, and as such will be blocked when discovered when auditing new registrations.
Sorry about all these hoops to jump through, but I am quite serious about blocking spammers and scammers at the gate on this site and am doing the very best that I can to that effect. Trust me, I would rather be doing more interesting things with my time, and wouldn't be making this effort if I didn't think it was worthwhile.

Baby Hamsters
My fancy hamsters had ten babies this morning. I didn't want to take chances so I took out the male.
It appears that two of my four female mice are pregnant. I have two males who have gotten along for the past month in there with them. Should I take the males out? The unpregnant females?
Also, I was wondering what type of rodent makes the best family group/colony in everyones opinion?

Can hamsters breed to mice? Just a curiosity, but what would that make if they can?

The other adults shouldn't pose any threat to the babies as long as there is no shortage of food and water. I never move any of my breeders, they are in constant groups of 1.4.
The rats I do differently, but the mice always stay together. My colony very rarely has any issues with killing the young.
With mice you sometimes run the risk of an individual not being accepted back into the group after being removed for a while. I don't have this problem with mine for some reason, I can replace single females, mix groups, or even give babies from one tub to a mother in another tub with no problems, but many people report being unable to switch them around at all without getting the newcomer killed.
It may have something to do with the strains, or the way I manage my colony I don't know.
At any rate I wouldn't move any of them out unless you took out one male. It's unusual for two males to live in the company of females long term without fighting.

I didn't think the males would be able to do this either when I put them together, but I used a gradual type integration and they get along just as well as any of my females. One of the two did have her babies today though. It looks to be about 20 babies though, these won't all survive will they? The still pregnant female was laying in the nest with the new mother.

Actually they all can survive. Both females will feed the litter. There might be a problem when the second litter is born though, especially if it's as large. With a pile of 40 some can get left out at feeding time. I've lost a few babies due to this at times.
What I do now is when I am harvesting pinks for feeding and have several tubs in that situation, I take a few pinks from each tub to thin the litters down.
