Two More Animals Die After Mount Healthy House Fire - Cincinnati, Oh

Another house fire possibly caused by a reptile heat bulb! Secure all heaters and bulbs so they cannot cause a house fire. Remember no frayed cords, no cheap extension cords and while you're at it no trip hazards.

A Tri-State animal rescue group says two more animals have died as a result of a fire in a Mount Healthy home, bringing the total death toll to five animals.

Cool Critters Outreach in Cincinnati posted on their Facebook page Friday morning, saying they'd taken in 31 of the eighty animals displaced in the fire on Thursday morning but two of their rescues died, reportedly of smoke inhalation. CCO says they lost a frog and a bearded dragon to the fire-related injuries.

The fire began around 10:40 a.m. Thursday at the home on Adams Road. It was initially reported in the chimney but apparently spread to the second floor.

Inside, firefighters found more than 70 pets including a couple of dogs, 12 rabbits, 2 guinea pigs, 1 hedgehog, 7 finches, 2 cockatiels, 5 hamsters, 10 mice, 18 rats, 6 cats, a chinchilla, 4 iguanas and 4 bearded dragons plus some snakes. One iguana and two cats died in the fire.

Homeowner Nikki Hagaman works at the Animal House in Mount Healthy and takes in rescue animal. All the animals she had were rescues that she was trying to place. The Cincinnati SPCA and several other area rescue organizations helped to find places for all the animals displaced by the fire. But Animal House workers says while they were out at Hagaman's house helping her to gather up the animals, someone walked into their store on Hamilton Avenue and stole a puppy.

Hagaman was cited by police for disorderly conduct after she got into a minor scuffle with an officer while trying to reenter her house. Officials

No humans were hurt. The cause of the fire is not yet known but Hagaman told Local 12 that based on the location of the fire, she believes a heat bulb in an iguana cage is to blame.
