Who has had good/bad experience with Rare Earth Inc.   I'm gonna spend some serious $$$$$ with them soon and have learned the hard way to ask around about people first. I've never heard anything bad but figured it can't hurt to ask our Herp community here.

Thanks

Ralph

*If* it's the Rare Earth, Inc. in Richmond VA, I bought some used Vision cages from them about a year ago.  I saw both the store and breeding facility and both were clean and well kept.  They didn't have any animals I was interested in at the time but I wouldn't have hesitated to buy from them if they had.

I purchased a 1.1 pair of Gilas from Rare Earth last June. Since I live relatively close I decided to pick the animals up in person. Their facility is awesome and their collection of rare and unusual animals is second to none! In addition, Joe was very polite and courteous before, during and after the sale.

A friend of mine bought a retic from the retail store that sells their stuff, it operates as Reef and Reptile.  He got it a couple of months ago, and it had mites.  Never been to the breeding facility but they are only about 2 miles from me if they still operate in the same place.  The retail store is usually pretty dirty every time I go in.

I bought a group of 5 adult blue tail monitors. Supposedly ltc. One female died the day after receiving them. He told me sorry, but it is my loss. Another died about 1 month after that, but I didn't even bother calling him on the second one. I would never reccommend him or purchase from him again.

Hmmmmmm,

Good and bad replies. Not as easy as I thought here............

I wouldn't place alot on the retail store if only for being objective and pointing out the store itself could have introduced the mites, no proof so to speak. That leaves me with two for and one against. Any other info from anyone out here?   More the merrier of course and thanks to all who took the time to post and such.

I know that since Greg left Rare Earth that things haven't been the same. I think they've downsized considerably and I don't see their ads like I used to. Depending on the species you're interested in, you might be better served buying the animals from someone else for now....

I am not saying anything bad about Rare Earth, but I get the feeling that the drive behind the business left when Greg pulled up stakes and moved on.

I can highly recommend Rare Earth, I purchased a pair of black head pythons and they were flawless! Jim Elliott <Razorbackherps> <img src="http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>

I can't tell you a thing about them as I don't work with any Boids. &nbsp;Just be sure to get everything in writing before doing business with them. &nbsp; There's nothing wrong with being redundent (sp?) and a verbal agreement isn't worth it's weight in paper so be sure to recap everything in an email and have them do the same so you're both very clear. &nbsp; If there's one thing I've learnd in life it's that you can never be too clear and even when you cover what you think is everything troubles still come up.

Good luck!

Thumbs down Rare Earth

I recently dealt with Jason Kline of Rare Earth. It was a bad experience that I won't go into details about but I wouldn't deal with them again unless you can pick up the animals in question. I would also note they are no longering in Richmond Va. and have moved to Glen Burnie , MD. There reputation for being a leader in dwarf monitors has certainly deminished in my mind.
Good Luck, Matt Traficante
