4 foot-long ball python found in backyard

A 4 foot-long ball python has been found inside a nesting cage in the backyard of a Gainesville couple.

The body of one of Carl and Brenda Kottmeyers' exotic birds, a white-bellied Caique, was found laying next to the snake.

The rare female bird from the Amazon had apparently been fatally constricted by the python.

The Kottmeyers say they suspect the reason the snake did not swallow the bird was because the Caique was too large.

They also say that although they are upset about the situation, they did not destroy the snake.

Caiques are expensive birds. I wonder if the ball got loose or if someone released it.
