With all the hoopala about this that and the other thing
I was wondering do all people follow the rules or do they read them at all
new threads being started on topics that were allready there
profanity
among a list of other offences
I am sure the webslave is busy[hatching season] and such
but I think we should all make it easier on him and try to stick to the rules
not trying to be a preacher [I have broken a rule or two I am sure] <img src="http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'>

I think part of the duplication of topics is due to the somewhat shaky search engine this board has....not Webslave's fault, I think it's a software bug. The rest is sheer laziness and boredom, or someone who thinks they have a &quot;different point of view&quot; and want to make it noticed.

The whole profanity deal is prolly part frustration, part exasperation, and part bad communication...some people think that they can get their thoughts across more clearly with said profanity. I know I can at times &nbsp;<img src="http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>

Having another person or two as a moderator would help his load, but this board is his baby...so I haven't offered to help.

Personally I LOVE the YaBB forum software. Much easier to use.

John,

You know I've been thinking along the same lines, but I have a bit of a different spin on the &quot;rules following&quot; issue. &nbsp;Can we really expect anything other than what we've seen thus far, given the content of the BOI? &nbsp;I mean, what the board was established to do was to ferret out those who do not follow the rules of the herp society (by that I mean the standard ways of doing business). &nbsp;Should we be surprised when those who rip people off, lie, cheat, steal, and give us all a black eye use their same value system to totally disregard the rules of the BOI? &nbsp;

This board draws people who are coming here to defend themselves against allegations of wrong doing. &nbsp;A certain percentage of those people are guilty of that wrong, and they will post with the same disregard to &quot;the rules&quot; as they run their business. &nbsp;Newer people come on here, see how others have posted, and simply follow their bad example without ever reading the rules at all. &nbsp;I mean, really, how can you read ANY of the rules on the BOI and not understand that your full name has to appear on your post somewhere?

Maybe this is just pop-psychology run amuck on my part, but I think people that will lie, cheat, and steal from you on a herp deal will also have no problem disregarding the rules of the forum designed to make them known for what they are. &nbsp;Personally, that is part of the reason I don't trust people who are flagrant violators of the rules here. &nbsp; If someone will disregard the common standard of the herp community here, why would he/she act differently when taking my money or shipping my snakes? &nbsp; What do you think? &nbsp;Am I just nuts here?

Are you nuts ...no I don't think so.Agreed ..people who lie cheat and steal from you will RIP you off in a herp deal
This board is meant to ferret out that..EVEN IF THEY HAVE A BIG FAN FOLLOWING [insert your own names here]
Pop psychology??? I think its more peer pressure and I would think that most would not succumb to that ....but...I guess if you can capitalise a lot and use expletives and a bunch of neet adjectives, oh lets not forget excuses then , and only then, you are exempt from rules or requests by the webslave.
I can just imagine the looks on a newbies face when he or she reads some of this stuff <img src="http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'>

I always understood that if the comment didn't have something directly to do with the thread topic that is wasn't supposed to be there.

This rule is spreading thin real fast especially when it comes to certain individuals who think they are above the rules. They seem to think they can say and do whatever they want and as long as it contains no valgarity so they can go ahead and post it anyway.

I agree 100% with the fact that first time impressions given by some of these threads must really be leaving some folks scratching their heads wondering what some people are talking about. Too many time the main subjects of the threads get thrown to the wind and end up heading in a whole either new or old direction and when somebody points it out they get hammered by some of the characters that think they run the board.

I'm sorry if I'm sounding a bit frustrated but I am. A very good individual started this board in order for all who wanted to participate to have a vehicle to save themselves from being ripped off by more and more unscrupulous people in the herp industry. This shouldn't mean that he should be held hostage by the users of the board that may be supporting it in some way. He shouldn't have to worry about saying the wrong thing to an individual just because he is being forced to sell advertising to support this board. You are buying advertising rights not the right to push someone around. I continue to advertise on this board even though I sometime disagree with some of it's content but that is my choice.

If we appreciate this board and want it to continue for what it was originally designed for maybe it's time to start supporting the rules more closely and making webslaves' life a little easier. Lets let some of the worse offenders know that although they may think that negative advertising is OK as far as they are concerned, it is nothing more then them breaking the rules so that they can keep their names out in front of the readers all the time. Some people will never change and they will continue to do what they want, when they want, and how they want to do it. Some people believe their own statements so much that in their own eyes they have never done a thing wrong or if they have they are looking at it in a whole different way then everyone else does.

The only way to deal with this kind of situation is to all stand behind the rules and help inforce them the best way possible.

Thanks for you time folks.

As most know, I am a fairly regular participant in the BOI. I know for a fact that I have broken a rule here and there. I even started a topic called BOI Etiquette. Regarding the rules and conduct. I only got a couple replies. Seemed like no one cared. So, in essence, this thread is breaking those rules. I started a topic regarding the BOI and not following the rules. This is another thread on the same topic. Sometimes I am too serious and sometimes I am somewhat flip in my attitude. However, how I conduct myself is always top priority for me. If y'all feel,, because I am a regular here and have broken the rules here and there, that I am a problem, let me know. I don't push anyone around. And I don't force my opinions and thoughts on any one. I post my thoughts and leave it at that. As well, at times, I defend my position if I feel the need to do so. My point is, don't make blanket statements like:

</span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">Lets let some of the worse offenders know that although they may think that negative advertising is OK as far as they are concerned, it is nothing more then them breaking the rules so that they can keep their names out in front of the readers all the time.</td></tr></table><span id='postcolor'>

If y'all have a problem with me and how I conduct myself, tell me. Let me know. So, if I feel it is necessary, I can continue or adjust the way I conduct myself on the BOI. Thanks for your input and your thoughts. Take care and have a nice day.

John,

Thecnically speaking, I don't think this thread is a violation of the BOI rules because a) the BOI rules don't apply to the General Discussion area of the Faunclassifieds, and b) that previous thread was on the BOI and NOT in the General Discussion area. &nbsp;SO, unless I am mistaken, you haven't broken any rules by supporting this thread! &nbsp;LOL

Further, I, for one, have never had any problems with whatever infractions you have made. &nbsp; My problems lie with those who blatantly ignore the rules either from ignorant indifference or complete disregard for the priviledge of posting on the BOI. &nbsp;I think it is the same mentality that has John Apple up in arms as well.

Let me also echo the compaint against those who see fit to use the BOI as free advertisement. &nbsp; Some seem to buy into the old Hollywood adage &quot; It doesn't matter WHAT they're saying about you, so long as they ARE talking about YOU!&quot; &nbsp; That being true, I get a little offended with some people (fill in the blank as you see fit) saying, &quot; No, really, stop talking about me&quot; and alluding to themselves in almost every thread available. &nbsp; You all have to make up your own minds about that, but I don't think this is what the BOI was intended to accomplish.

Hey John,
I'm not singling out anyone in particular because I have spam_been guilty of getting off topic from time to time. I don't chime in much but once in a while I throw in a quote or 2.
In the spirit of things we all throw in a few extra comments once in a while. Some to get a reaction, Some to cut down, Some to encourage, ETC. ETC... I'm refering to the ones who just need to keep adding fuel to the fire with only their own self satisfation in mine.

I guess you can go by the the old addage: &quot; If the shoe fits __&quot;..

I don't know many of you folks at all so don't think I'm pointing fingers at anyone in particular I'm just trying to get everyone to rally around the rules and either go by them or if you can, help enforce them. As I said before. This is an extremely useful tool that is being provided and a bunch of really great people supporting it. Let's keep it that way.

Hey Mel
I think your signature says it all
strong and bitter words indicate a week cause
can we all think of anyone who fits the bill here??? <img src="http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'>
John R I think you are an asset to the BOI [no brown nosing here] you might have broken a rule or two[straying off course]
an offence I am guilty of from time to time
I think all the reputable dealers and breeders try to keep themselves in check and those that don't usually make the loudest noise or get into stupid he said she said wars about whatever
don't get me wrong I am not mistaking honest passion for stupidity, I think that is why some threads are allowed to stay
Give a man enough rope.......well you know the rest
I would like to thank all of you for letting blow off some steam
on this matter &nbsp;<img src="http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>
I think the webslave needs help from time to time, and its up to us all to keep the bull caged[place names here]
peace <img src="http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=''>
