Question About what age would one become aggressive toward a cage mate?

Abbott and Costello have been cage mates since birth. They are now about 8 months old. I'm thinking I have 2 females now. About what age would one become aggressive towards the other if they were going to. They still seem to get along well but at times...like now since Costello is shedding ...he will head butt Abbott a bit.Abbott is a bit smaller so he just turns away. That is the extent of it. I do keep an eye on them jut to make sure. Most the time they just keep their distance. They each have their own favorite basking spot they tend to stay to. They seem to share the food OK and sometime still sit on top of eachother. I do have another cage for a back up just in case but would love to build one big enclosure as soon as I'm sure they will get along. So just curious about what age they would start not getting along if that was going to happen.
Thanks for any input.

I would say that you first need to find out the sexes to be sure. There are websites that explain how to do it and show you what to look for.I would say if it ends up being to males seperate imediataly , if one is smaller he may be to stressed, You may not see the trouble untill it is to late. If it is two females they should be fine together as long as the little one is not being bullied.

We haven't had any females that like each other's company very well. We housed two sisters together since we bought them as babies and everything went well up until the 5 month mark. One would lay on top of the other one all the time (a sign of dominance) and shot up in size. They were feed independently so food was not a factor, yet one was taking over. She started showing her beard and bobbing at the other one, making the second girl wave and run away. Once we separated them, the second one caught up and is apparently much happier being without her sister.

Sibling rivalry isn't just for humans, you know!

A dragon can become a bully overnight, especially around the time they hit "puberty". Keep an eye on them and make sure you monitor their lengths and weights to ensure there isn't a dominance issue starting.

A couple of websites that give examples of determining sex:

If in any case, try and take some pictures and we could help you out!

Thanks for your help. Abbott use to be much bigger than Costello but now the tables have turned...the past couple months Costello has about doubbled in size and is about 3 inches and 90 grams larger than Abbott. I did notice Abbott waving his little arm alot lately. I have an extra 20 gal. tank I'll put him in and then get a bigger one for him. If I wait for my husband to build one they will be 2 yrs. old by then..lol..He is a carpinter but seem to only have time to work on othe peoples things. I'll seperate just for safety sake. I wouldn't want anything to happen to them Abbott has such a great personality and loves people...Costello..well he just rather not be bothered. I'll get a picture of both and see what everyone thinks as soon as i get a bit of help to hold them...but I think my little boys are girls..

Hello

Hello,

Please do keep in mind that adult bearded dragons, either male or female, needs at least 4 square ft of floor space to be comfortable. Alot of people will do 90 gallon tanks, which are pretty good too.
So, if you are going to house to adults, you are going to need a huge tank, if you hubby builds it, I would say 8 feet at least. Just so they can have their own ends to bask & live in without competing for space & UVB & heat.
