Talking what are you expecting next season??

I have a 100% het albino and a 100% het pied that i will be breeding to multiple females. If all goes well then ill have hets for both next summer. Then I have to wait for those girls to grow up and breed back to dad.

y dont u try trading the babies for adults? it would cut the time in half and it would take out the imbreeding which is not always a great idea

morphs

true, If anyone would be willing to do that for an adult het pied female. or adult het albino female. My odds of finding someone to do that is none to none.

yep but trading a few of the female possible hets for other baby possible hets may be an option, That is what I am going to try to do when I produce some with my het pied this coming season. If not I will try to pick up another male next season so he will be able to breed back to prove out the girls and prevent inbreeding.

inbreeding

From all of th emajor breeders that i have talked to,Everyone of them said thats the sure way to produce the morph. I know inbreeding can be bad if its done alot! like ddaughter to dad, then siblings to brothers and so on........ But after i produce atleast one morph of each type i will have adult unrelated females and i will purchase a het male or female to go with them to end the inbreeding process.

keep in mind that you when breeding 100% hets to normals, you have a bunch of possible hets. also, when you breed the babies back to the parents, you do not get "unrelated females"; you get siblings that are the product of line breeding. My suggestion would be to purchase or trade for a few more 100% hets when you get your first hatchlings, esp since you are not working with visual morphs to begin with (at least if you were dealing with visual morphs, one could almost justify breeding back to the parents to "prove out" the possible hets...but a het to a possible het might not even show a visible morph in a clutch of 5-6. what if the only actual hets produced were males? too much of a crap shoot, IMO)

OOPS, my mind was working faster than my fingers. Father to daughter breedings is considered a form of linebreeding by some, but it is also a classic example of inbreeding. If you are breeding your 100% hets to a number of unrelated females, you could just as easily make up a few groups from the different clutches. It's still one heck of a crap shoot (poss het to poss het), but it is also good experience...and depending on why you are breeding in the first place, might be well worth the time and effort.

If you are working on a budget with recessive hets, the males of most are relatively cheap now and since males mature faster than females buying a new het male to get new blood is reasonable.

For example, I used a het albino male to make a group of 50% chance het albino daughters for cheaper than I could have bought the girls and with much less worry about if they really where possible hets.

I then sold the het male albino and did a risky thing and replaced him with a presumed unrelated 66% chance het albino male. Why? I actually considered it a trade up because he was also 50% chance het Jolliff axanthic and I was very interested in the snow project.

So I bred 66% het albino X 50% het albino and low and behold they both proved. Unfortunately that is where my luck ran out and both albino babies (out of the only two surviving eggs) where kinked for some reason and didn't live. I do have a couple of possible double het for Jolliff snow girls growing up and so far 11 more eggs with a shot at albino possible het Jolliff axanthic from this project.

So, if you have the patience to start a recessive project with only a het male you can easily swap him out and avoid inbreeding and possibly upgrade your project along the way.
