Have a go at sexing these

Heya all,
I recently bought three monkey tails, all of which have been living together for several months with their past owner. I have them all housed together currently as well, and they are all very amicable towards one another. Heres the tricky part - they all appear male to me! So, I thought I would ask you guys what you thought;

Cheers,
Jo

Hmm, it says I cant edit my post so Ill have to add - 1 and 2 seem to get on the best, and 2 is occasionally openly aggressive when we handle 1. 3 hangs around with them from time to time, but the other 2 seem to always be together. 3 appears the most obviously male in the flesh, as his head is hugely rugged and his body a perfect cylinder.

I have examined the vents of all 3 and they appear "typically" male - though I have had some anomalies over this in the past (a female that appeared to have a "male" vent when held in different ways).

Can't help ya, but Congratulations on the new additions!!

I'd like to get a couple pairs of those, but they're kinda hard to find over here!

Hi Jo- Congrats on the new additions. My opinion is 1 +3 male. #2 Female. I think the behavior you mentioned supports this idea. I'm not sure that means you need to separate them, if they have been living together with no trouble they must have worked something out. Although, you may have a better chance of breeding if your males are not worried about eachother and can focus on her. Good luck, they all look to be in great shape.

Thanks Kisha, when looking at the pics that was my first thought, but in the flesh 2 looks to have a larger head than the image has portrayed...Ill have to have a closer look at him/her, but Im definitely conviced that 3 is male, and 1 has the most enormous head ever (but is also the biggest skink I have ever seen, so I didnt know if that was skewing my perspective). I was planning on removing 3 from the mix, since we have a surplus of males now, so thats not a problem.

Ill be really glad if 2 is a female, as 1 and 2 are definitely my favourites - really mellow so long as we arent handling them, will come over and eat from our hands etc! Many thanks for your advice, I will update if it becomes any more obvious (they are in quarantine, so cant be allowed to mingle with any others yet to see if that makes it clearer...I have another male who has been quite handy at identifying other males in the past!)

Another pic of #2

Another pic of no. 2...definitely looks male here I think! Its a troublesome one, as it frequently looks like both. This is it fully stretched out walking - the other is it standing still. What do you think? Do I have the only 3-male colony in the world??
