copperhead color morphs

i love copperheads, and im very interested in color morphs and the different sub species. first off if anyone knows a breeder of these great snakes, let me know. second of all im sure you all have heard of the infamous black copperheads, ive heard there is a spot in kentucky where the coppers tend to be very dark. does anyone know of other spots where this tends to occur? ive seen photos of patternless osage coppers, does this happen frequently? or is this a locality morph? my email is themartian_manhunter@yahoo.com
thank you

I'm only aware of one melanistic specimen and it was found in an area where contortrix and mokasen intergrade. I believe this specimen was found by Alvin Braswell of the N.C. State Museum of Natural Sciences and it's picture appears in "Snakes of the Agkistrodon Complex".

The only completely patternless copperheads that I've heard of are phaeogaster from somewhere in Kansas.

I've also seen fully striped specimens as well as ones that appear to be anerythristic and hypomelanistic. The only albino I've seen is the head shot photograph in Bechtel's book.

I'm not aware of any breeders of copperhead morphs but if you hear of any, let me know.

I'm working on reproducing some partly striped specimens, but my efforts are a bit half-hearted because I am unwilling to sell any venomous snakes on the open market. I generally trade or give offspring to trustworthy keepers who will make sure they are not abused (eg, venomoided). But there's a limit to how many homes I can find for the babies, so I'm not going all out to produce them.
