Thumbs up Nylabone Fold & Carry Kennels

I first saw these when they came out a few years ago and was pretty impressed with them... but the price was a little steep. However, for bringing Cooper home, I thought it would be the best route to go for travelling.

I actually purchased this one at the p.s. where I used to work, and the price wasn't too bad since my former boss gave me a $25 coupon for it. Later, I found them at a farm supply store for 1/2 what the p.s. was charging though.

Originally, I think they only made X-small and small (the one I got is a small) but now I've seen the larger ones in a few places. The larger ones, if I remember correctly, are completely rectangular in shape instead of "barn-shaped" and were a darker color.

Anyway, I'm really glad I got it. I'm used to Doskocil kennel cabs that came in two pieces and took forever to disassemble/reassemble because of all those wing nuts. This one folds down and reassembles in the same amount of time it takes to do one set of wing nuts, and is REALLY sturdy once assembled.

The mfg. claims that they are approved for airlines, but I was told that airlines don't allow for collapsable kennels, but Nylabone offers a "kit" of some sort that makes the assembled kennel legit with the airlines. I can check into that if anyone's interested.

Just thought I'd share.

I remember seeing those awhile back when they first came out, and remember thinking at the time they were kind of flimsy for the price they were asking. From the pictures, it looks like they've made them a bit sturdier, and if the price has come down too, they look like they would be mighty handy to have!

Have you seen those new soft-sided crates they have now? I haven't really looked into them too much, since the only dogs that I need to kennel would eat them, lol....but I think they would be really neat if you don't have a chewer. I would think the nylon-type fabric would be much more comfy for them than the plastic.

Cathy, I know which soft-sided ones you're talking about. We used to carry them at the store. There were a lot of complaints of them not holding up very well, and nylon is a pretty dangerous material to have around dogs in the first place. I don't think they were on the shelves more than a few months. I just put a dog bed or something similar inside the crate--with the top-opening feature, it's really easy to "plop" him in and lift him out even if the bed is blocking the door a little.
