Dwarf Suriname Toads, Pipa parva, are an amazing species of frog that are rarely bred and offered in the US. It is, however, one of the most fascinating aquatic species you could ever pick for an aquarium. Many zoos keep this species because they are so entertaining, but the opportunity to add them to your aquarium is unusual.

These frogs are fully aquatic and readily take frog pellets and other common aquatic foods. They do not require exceptionally clean water and can be kept with fish. It’s fun to watch them eat with their hands but the way they breed is what really sets them apart. As the male and female somersault through the water, the eggs are deposited onto the females back where they remain until they hatch as tadpoles. The tadpoles grow rapidly filter-feeding off commercially available food. Prior to metamorphosis, they take on their most alien form.

This frog will be a staple of amphibian and aquarium enthusiasts in the near future. We will give priority to those buying larger groups. We want to ensure that this species will remain in US collections into the foreseeable future and larger groups will always breed better.
