Quick feeding question ? ? ? Ground Turkey Good or Bad ? ? ?

Hello everyone,

I have a question. I once heard at a reptile show from a dragon breeder that bearded dragons can be fed lean ground turkey if crickets or other regular meaty foods are not available.

I searched online and here on Fauna to double check on what I heard but I can't seem to find anything that mentions feeding ground turkey to them. I know you can feed monitors this but unsure if dragons can eat it as well.

Thought I'd do my research before I dare feed them anything, ya know?
I havn't fed my dragons ground turkey but am just curious.

Any advice on this would be great!

Thanks!

Hello

Hello,

Personally, I would not feed any type of ground meat to your dragon. I think it is too high in protein. They may not be able to break it down like they would a feeder.
I have heard of people doing that, but most breeders & keepers normally do not. I would rather you feed the moist dragon bites than turkey, if you run out of feeders. Or, rub some chicken or turkey babyfood onto their greens or mix it in with their veggies & see if they would eat that. The babyfood is broken down better & would be easier for them to digest than the ground turkey.

I hope this helps.

Hey Tracie,

Thanks for the advice. Not a comman subject I think. If I ever run out of the feeders then I'll give the baby food a shot.

Thanks for your reply to the post!

Take care,
Jerit

Hello

Hello Jerit,

No problem. It certainly wont kill him, but shouldn't be used solely but you know that.
The babyfood would be a better alternative.
Let me know if you need anything else.
