You do nice work, not much of it though, Lol, just kidding......
I always say that to people I work with.

Why not utilize the space inside and around the water basin frame? also the same on the right side, under the floor.
It looks like you can access both areas from the front.

Using that space for storage.

May should have stripped the whole thing out from the start....

What I mean is, allow the monitor access into these two areas, the way the cage is set up now. Kinda like a whole nother area for him, under the existing floor you already have.
The work is already done, only reason why Im suggesting it.
You have access to these areas from the front to clean.

Cut or bore a hole just big enough for the lizard to fit through into the vertical piece that seperates water from land,
Put some cypress mulch down there and check your temps,
let the lizard do its thing.

This is one of the things I notice my monitors like to do, hide and feel secure, but at the same time, be able to see whats going on around them.
I think its important for there long term and overall well being.
