V. Melinus are Quince or Moluccan monitors, referring to the islands they frequent, but are often referred to as yellows, which is a misnomer indeed. Yellow monitors are from India, are protected under CITES I, and their binomial is V. flavescens. Sorry it took six years to answer this, but as you can see, I'm fairly new to this website (but not to herpetology).

sorry i pressed post as i was sayin locusts, frozen silversides(whole bait fish that u can get at a petstore that specializes in fish), canned jumbo krill(also from a fishstore), they need a big enclosure say 6x6x8. they are $300-800. they need branches to climb and a large water area big enough to swim. not a biggener monitor. make sure u get a captive bred 1.

what is their temperament like? i read some discrepant opinions. more like a water monitor or a savannah? people say savannah's are tame but i find them to be pretty tempermental. water monitor's are pretty much like a cat from what ive experienced.

I can say first hand that although they are beautiful, they are a very difficult species because of their reclusive nature. Their temperament isn't that good either, though I've heard exceptions. Consider a peach throat monitor before these guys, you may enjoy it more.

i have boith a peach throat and a melinus.. and with my personal opinion my melinus is alot more tame. never bitten and pretty outgoing, whioch i understand is quite unusual for this species. my peach throat ive taken some nasty bites from.
