Sudden Death :(

So my third hatchling of the season who was about 5 months old dropped dead tonight. I found her very soon afterward. We dissected her (Chris is a bio major) and found nothing out of the ordinary. She seemed healthy, was alert, and always ate well. I am going to take her body to the veterinarian I work for tomorrow. He doesn't specialize in herps, but he may be able to tell me something. I am doubtful though.

I am looking for a website that might show leopard gecko internal organ pictures or an anatomy illustration. Does anyone have any idea where I might find that information?

Also, does anybody have any inkling of what may have happened??? Any suggestions as to what condition might cause such a sudden death of a healthy normal looking gecko? This is so heartbreaking...

I can imagine your heartbreak! I doubt you will be able to find any dissected leos online! However, do you have a college nearby with a herpetology program or a vet school? You may be able to find some further and very willing assistance there that you won't be able to get at a vet. Keep us up to date!

Was she in shed? I almost had a fat & healthy juvenile die from choking on her shed this season.....really! Very sorry for your loss.

I had the same problem with one of my other gecko's about 2 weeks ago. I also dissected it as well and could not see anything abnormal.

I would like to get a book or a site that shows the internal organ structure of a gecko or any other lizard.

I'm sure it does not change much.

thanks

Paul

I am so sorry for your loss,,, you might want to try calling my herp vet Dr. Greek. It will be a long distance call for you since he is in CA, but he is wonderful about returning calls and is VERY knowledgeable when it comes to leos. His number is (714) 777-1661. Good Luck!

Thanks everyone for your support. Through the vet I work for, I have found a lab that will do a necropsy on the gecko. I am shipping her Monday and I will let you know the outcome.

That is so sad, I hope your others are doing well and that you can find out what happened to this one even if its only for your own peace of mind.

***Inside a Leo*** pic warning!

I found this photo earlier today on a site from Hong Kong I think it was.... I would have posted a link to the page but unless you speak Hong Kongese (LOL)I don't think it would be helpful. I figured it may be helpful somehow... if nothing else it should make you be thankful for skin hiding this stuff!
