I just figure a snake costing $600 bucks will make me think a LOT harder about my genuine desire for it, than a snake costing $80.

At the moment I'm sweating thinking about laying out $300 for an arboreal! I mean, I want one, but thats a load of cash..without a cage even!

But you're right, to some folks they'd buy it no matter how much it cost..me, I cant afford the big buck snakes, so if I do buy one..I know it's because I really, really want the snake.

Another way of looking at it is that if the price tag was higher, you'd have more people trying to cash in. Look how many people have started working with balls, with $$ in their eyes.
Bottom line is that you can't regulate stupidity, either with legislation or by affecting cost.

Very many people underestimate the power of BITIS ssp. I have worked with a lot of species of bitis. And in my own opinion the BITIS family of snakes are by far the most unperdictable species of hot. Their was a pet shop about a 1/2 hour away from me. And they had some gabbys, and i was playing dumb asking amature questions. The guy who was selling/keeping them. Said that gabbys are very slow strickers with a mild venom. Now rember he just got those snake's a couple of days before i was their. Than i told him i was experienced bla bla bla. So i told him to feed them, he threw the rat in and when he saw how they can strick like lightning in all directions he was SHOCKED. That just shows, people think that a some what short and fat snake like a gaboon would strick and move slow, NOT TRUE AT ALL. And i know the guy that shot that video his name is Al C. I met him at the last Hamburg show, he's a really cool guy. With a lot of awsome species.

Thumbs down Safety First!!!!!

Some nice videos, BUT.....................
Obviously one of them real smart and safe hot handlers. Feeding that gabby with tweezers, the cottonmouth stunt with the camera, I could go on, but they all IMO are unsafe rookie type practices that don't really seem to have an educational purpose save for the speed in which these snakes can strike. You can show that just as well from a safe distance.

Thumbs down for safety. (or lack of)
