Hats off Tony!!!
The add below appeared today in kingsnake.com and I figured it should be here for everyone to see just in case it got deleted. I absolutely agree with what Tony stated in the quote below.
There has been an incredible proliferation of people offering normal ball pythons for what they are not, and at outrageous prices. This is an example of what I meant in the Adam Block's thread about not being right to sell animals based on the "ignorance" of the customer. This post is just meant to be a "heads-up" to all ball python "wannabe" breeders,
[quote]After talking to many of my fellow ball breeders, I have noticed there has been alot of balls classified as mutations which in my opinion ( as well as my fellow breeders opinions) are nothing more than slightly aberant. These "want to be" mutations are often sold to people for a fairly high price with the buyer having high hopes for it's genetics. The sellers of these animals in my opinion are FEEDING on the consumers lack of information and the sellers are using this to their advantage. THIS IS WRONG! I as well as many other fellow ball breeders have spent alot of time and money on ball projects and hate to see the ball market be tainted by these "want to be"- Classic Jungles, Clowns, Pieds, Stripes, etc. There is a reason why the reputable ball breeders command (and get) the prices they ask for their balls. They did the work and proved it works genetically! Any honest person should represent( and price) their animal(s) based on a comparison of what has been proven genetic. Many balls are still not proven and I agree many more will turn out genetic, however don't fall for a "get rich quick" scam, which many surely already have! If it sounds to good to be true it probably is!!! We ball breeders are continually offering many new exciting mutations which will satisy many collectors for many years, let's not ruin the awesome value of these spectacular reptiles because of "imitation" animals. Thanks for your time, Anthony McCain. [quote]
