Mini Mealworms

Has anyone ever tried feeding mini mealworms to their young beardies? They are a smaller species of mealworm (obviously) that only reach about 1/2 to 3/4 inch in length. The reason I ask is we are pondering any detrimental effect of feeding them to dragons around 4 1/2 - 5 inches in length. Any suggestions?

I was told that they are ok as long as they are freshly molted and the shell has not hardened.

I personally have fed hard shelled ones with no ill effects but why chance it???

I've seen ads for them, and was curious about them for young Beardies as well....but it'd be pretty hard to pick out enough freshly molted ones each day to make it worthwhile, wouldn't it?

It really wasn't worth the aggravation for me. The small mealworms are bad enough. The mini's are 10X worse.

Hehehe, same with me - sorting through small mealworms was the worst when it came to transferring them to the gutload that I use. I also have to agree with the freshly shed mealworms since they're softer ~

Thanks for the input everyone. We may still give it a shot. We just want more protein going into them than a 1/4" cricket can provide. Too bad they are all exoskeleton and no meat.

I got a couple thousand for free so I tried it, NEVER AGAIN!!!! You could see lots of undigested mealies when they poop. I have never seen that with roaches or crix.

They do have a hard time breaking down the exoskeletons. Some of the dragon poop I have seen.........
