Thoroughly researching for first boid

I have a lot of information
to utilize from here I can
already tell. I am not at
the moment a boid owner,
but am researching royals
intensively - and plan on
getting a very nice specimen
in person at this herp expo
come October this year...
started obsessing over morphs
and researching about a month
ago. I was always afraid of
snakes until handling one of
my neighbor's ball pythons,
and then I was captivated
by the mass variety of morphs.

I'm a botanist in the Pacific
Northwest, and have been
a greenthumb ever since I
could remember, starting with
rhododendrons. I've been
breeding and doing phenotype
selection for myself and 4
different seed companies
I volunteer for at the moment
in my spare time while being
a full time gardenhand, which
has been very draining the
past few years. I intend on
being on my own in soon time,
investing most of my time into
my seed making endeavors.
I'm mainly into succulents,
cannabis, orchids, & carnivores
at the moment though my
tastes change if something
obsesses me. My work & pheno
selection entails the medical
industry in Washington. I'm
not sure what the stance is
pertaining to this so I'm keeping
it at snakes, but being free
from work when I'm on my
own will give me a lot more
time to take care of a new
baby! I'm very excited for
my morph ball python. I have
SO many questions to ask
pertaining to lighting spectrums
and other environmental needs
but I'll lurk pretty hard before
making a topic, if need be.
The specimens I've dealt
with in horticulture are really
finicky about their temps, air
flow and constant humidity
so I already feel like I'm semi-
prepared. Often I think I over
think things, but I'm not one
to rush into things I want to
be thorough and research. I
could have bought a snake on
a whim from some store but why
when I only want the best? I'm
willing to properly research and
wait these months until the expo
to see in person, though many
online vendors are tempting....

Besides botany, genetics are
somewhat of an interest/hobby
of mine, and I'd like to possibly
get into ball breeding (if I get
addicted to them), because
animal genetics are similar but
different than how plants pass
off traits, and I don't really
want to breed dogs...reminds
me of rhododendron filial times
compared to cannabis filial times..
with rhodies you have to wait
5 years before you've even found
out if you've made a new cross
or not, or if the pheno is just a
mirror of parent A, parent B.
Snakes in my mind seem much
more fun and exciting to breed
and take care of. I'm starting off
with one female, and if I even
contemplate breeding; I'll invest
in a very nice male down the line.

I'm most interested in pies, and
pie crosses. Bumblebees, womas,
butters, desert, clown, pastels,
lessers, firefly, coral/nanna, and
pinstripe crosses are also nice..
but I'm mainly in love with piebalds.

I forgot what else I was going to
type but that's probably good for
now, I'll enjoy being around! Ask
me if your plants start to look dead!

The reptile expo I'm planning to grab
my baby is in October, so I'm all ears.

Hello and welcome! Sounds like snake keeping and or breeding should be a natural extension to your other hobbies.
