Gecko Heating Question

Ok so ive been keeping Geckos for some time now.

But im planning on setting up a 3 stack of new vivs.

Whats the best method of heating them for geckos though?

The two geckos ive had in the past have been heating using a spot light.

But after chatting to a mate he suggested I should use a heatmat or a ceramic bulb heater instead?

Also Ive been looking at the habistat range of thermostat controls and am confused which one of these I should use, or if there are any alternative similar products around for reptiles?

Any help would be great.

Thank you.

Darren

I prefer using the UTH (under tank heat) over any kind of overhead heat.

Any kind of heat should be on some kind of thermostat/rheostat controls. I prefer the Johnsons or Rancos myself.

depends on the gecko. Cresteds do not need much heat in fact anything over 85 will make them ill/ kill them. they need 72 degrees. so we use a red bulb with low wattage-40-50. hang it over the cage but give them places to get away from it, too.

If he's going to have stacked cages, it may make hanging any kind of light difficult.

I guess it would be helpful to know what kind of geckos as well, I was thinking Leopard geckos. Some, as was pointed out by Colleen, have much different requirements.

Ive got a Golden Gecko at the moment so she will be going into one of them.

I was going to get a Snow Leopard Gecko for another.

And probably a Crested, Banded or Fat-Tailed Gecko in the last.

In case it makes a difference the viv ive got in mind has one long viv at the bottom (for the leopard) and then two tall and thin vivs on top of that.

Ive seen people who have a heat matt just stuck on the rear outside wall of the viv, but surely that is not enough for the Gecko to get enough heat?

Im just after some good ideas for setting up the whole heating arrangements really.

Ill have a look at those thermostats controls now too.
