Pamphobeteus sp. "platyomma" ("NW Ecuadorian Pink Birdeater")
CB'09 spiderlings! Tarantulaspiders.com produced stock! 2nd year in a row successfully breeding this species!
This is one of the most recognized and popular of the Pamphobeteus genus in our hobby. Spiderlings are beautiful with bright reddish-orange abdomens and a black "X-mas tree" pattern on them and they come out of the sac 1/2"-3/4" ready to overpower and eat larger prey than themselves. They grow quick and can obtain 4"-5" leg span in one year with males maturing in 1.5 yrs. and females 2.5. Females are very robust and heavy-bodied with an overall chestnut brown coloration with some pinkish highlights on the carapace near the eyes and black femurs. Males on maturity sport an incredible cobalt pink bloom coloration in the femurs and carapace with a nice pattern to boot. Males grows to 6.5''-7" leg span, but females can grow to 9" leg spans - very impressive!!!
Like all Pamphobeteus, they make excellent "display" tarantulas rarely burrowing or staying hidden. They are active, eat frequently and on big prey and grow fast and go through several coloration changes. This species has not been imported as wild-caught stock since 1997 and is only available as captive-born. Pairs are easily mated, but in the genus, it's hard to get a female to lay a fertile sac in captivity, so take advantage of this rare offering!
