10/11/11 NEW Arrivals!

• Phidippus clarus FL red-back jumper $9.75, 6+@$8 ea.

• Phidippus regius Regal Jumper (Orange morph) $9.75, 6+@$8 ea.

SPIDER OF THE MONTH!

• Nephila clavipes "FL Giant Golden-Silk Spider"
- This is one of North America's largest spiders with females sometimes obtaining 5" leg spans!
- This orb weaver makes HUGE webs averaging 3' x 2' , but I've seen many double this size!
- This spider makes some of the strongest silk in the world. Many researchers study their silk and they are used for many great science fair projects for
students!
- They are active and can catch very large prey in their large and strong webs. I've seen them catch brown anoles in FL. Their cousins in SE Asia have caught humming birds!
- Right now is prime season to get large adult females. Many are gravid. It would be a great project to overwinter their egg sacs and raise the spiderlings up in the spring.
- sub-adult/adult females, $9.75, 6+@$8 ea. (larger qty. available with discounts)

Spiderwatch in Southern Africa [Paperback]

Astri Leroy (Author), John Leroy (Author)

Product Description
This guide provides an insight into the complex, often mysterious and always fascinating world of spiders. The reader is introduced to the subject by informative features on the origin of these arachnids, on their bewildering variety, their classification into families and genera, and on their invertebrate relatives. The five chapters that follow cover the physical and behavioural characteristics of spiders, the main groups (hunters, trappers, ambushers, weavers, and so on) and dangerous species. A chapter on finding and studying spiders follows this and, finally, a selection of species accounts entitled "What Spider is That?"
