Aromatherapy and Cats - Some things can be dangerous.

I was just perusing stuff online tonight, and came across this information and wanted to share it with other cat owners as well.

http://cats.about.com/od/housekeepin...omatherapy.htm

"Essential Oils Potentially Toxic to Cats
(This list is not all-inclusive)

* Peppermint
* Lemon Oil
* Lavender Oil
* Melaleuca Oil
* Tea Tree Oil
* Cinnamon Bark Oil
* Wintergreen Oil
* Thyme Oil
* Birch Oil
* Other oils containing phenol "

This site also has lots of information about the subject

Who knew...

Copied from the article in the link above:

"Toxicity in cats can occur very quickly, through internal or external application, or over a longer period of time, through repeated or continuous inhalation of essential oils, but either way, it can lead to serious liver damage or even death."

I never would've thought that a cat just inhaling the oils could be at so much risk! How odd.

Yeah, i was hoping more might chime in on this to either correct some of the info ( just in case some might be exaggerated), or just discuss it.... its kinda scary, as i never knew about this beforehand. It definitely will make me more aware of stuff that is used around my cats.

I can't discount it or confirm it, but it kinda makes sense. Take into account the whole anti-freeze deal. I never would've thought that an animal would drink it, let alone the damage it could do!
