Cro Fab antivenin

Have any of you people heard about a new treatment for snakebite using Cro Fab, a new antivenin treatment derived from sheep plasma rather than the older horse-derived antivenin? I'm sure some of you people are more updated on these things than I am. I just read an article in my local Herpetological newsletter about this. Sounds very promising.

CroFab has been in use for a number of years now. I'm not too sure on the exact date it was made available, but its been administered since 2002, possibly earlier.

I really should keep notes...I read somewhere recently (and I think it was a reliable source) that CroFab will not be "the thing" in the not too distant future.

HH If you recall where, shoot me a link.

Crofab has been around for a while. Sheep seem to have a semi imunity to N A crotalids, and they have used this (ovine) and equine crofabs for treatment. This was a while back that I read this, and don't have a link for you. Sorry. I also seem to recall that in early development, they were trying for a vaccine type of thing.

Bioclon

out of Mexico is a better product and more affordable. I read somewhere that Crofab has been having problems with bite symptons occuring a week and half after treatment.

CroFab seems to have some trouble treating highly neurotoxic envenomations. As Tim said, BioClon is supposed to be much better at treating such envenomations. CroFab is in the process of improving the serum, it should be interesting.

Well i received CroFab with my crotalus adamanteus envenomation, and the bite was highly neurotoxic and CroFab worked great. i had no problems, but i have heard of this BioColn on the venomdoc fourms. so which ever antivenin most hospitals decide to use lets just hope it's a good choice.
