STOLEN PARROTS

I received this message in a regular e-mail from a parrot site we visit.  It is Toolady.com and I wanted to post it here for more to see.  Here it is:

HYACINTH MACAW THEFT, WILLOWBROOK, IL
Stolen from owners home on
March 8, 2002

On March 8, 2002 the home of David and Lisa Pye was broken into and their 4
rare Hyacinth macaws were stolen.  As far as The Pye's can tell, the thieves
entered their home between the hours of 5:30AM and 1<img src="http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wow.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':0'>0PM. &nbsp;The only things
taken were the 4 Hyacinth Macaws valued at $40,000.00. Rare birds are a
passion of David and Lisa Pye and have been for nearly 10 years.

Since the theft The Pye's have received numerous emails and phone calls from
people who have also had their exotic birds stolen. &nbsp;From preliminary research
The Pye's have found that theft of exotic birds is on the rise.

The Pye's are asking if you are approached regarding the buying or selling of
Hyacinth Macaws, especially if it seems suspicious, to contact either them or
the Willowbrook Police Department.

HYACINTH MACAWS
The largest Parrot in existence

THE HYACINTH MACAW is the largest Parrot in existence today. &nbsp;It is also the
most gentle of all macaws and is often referred to as 'Gentle Giant'.
Although not known to have a large vocabulary, they are very affectionate.

THE HYACINTH MACAW has been on the Cities Endangered Species List Appendix 1
since October on 1987. &nbsp;The rapid reduction of the Hyacinth Macaw is due the
illegal trapping for trade and habitat loss. It is estimated there is only
2500 Hyacinth Macaws left in the wild.

THE HYACINTH MACAW is Cobalt Blue in color with a yellow eye ring and a yellow
flesh patch around its black beak. &nbsp;Their tongue is also black with a yellow
strip. &nbsp;Their feet and nails are black and so is the underside of their
feathers.

Length: Averages 36" to 40".
Weight: Averages 1200 to 1700 grams.
Wingspan: 4 to 4 ½ feet.
