David and Danielle Dedrick AKA simply_vivid@yahoo.com - Dead Snakes

I made a purchase in the amount of $1,300 with D. Dedrick back in June. All four snakes arrived dead the day after he told me they would arrive. When I opened the box I could immidiately smell that there was something dead inside, and all four snakes had already begun rigamortis. I contacted the seller minutes after their arrival and provided him with my phone number.

He started off by insinuating that I had killed the snakes myself in order to get a refund, and then went on to suggest that I might have gotten the hogs to play dead for the pictures (which they are clearly not). After getting the run around, he proceeded to tell me that I was never offered a live arrival guarantee, and that he might consider giving me hatchlings later in the year.

Hatching time came around, and it didn't look like I was going to get anywhere. Luckily Sam from GBU Enterprises knew about my problem, and when Dedrick tried to purchase snakes from him, he declined and told him he needed to fix our transaction first.

I then received a call from Dedrick, where he apologized and said he thought I was a friend of Justin Mitcham (I had already told him some time ago that I had no affiliation with Justin, but he continued to believe I did) and was "trying to screw him." He went on to say that he would never have called me if it were not for Sam, and that I owe Sam for setting the record straight with him. Eventually we decided that I would purchase an axanthic 66% het albino for $3,000, the $1,300 would be deducted from that price, and we would exchange in person at Daytona.

Neither of us could make it to Daytona, so I offered to drive out there and collect it. He then told me it was no longer for sale, and he sent me a partial refund. I was told that I would receive an additional $700 at a later date.

Not long after, I received an email stating his entire collection was for sale (including the axanthic I wanted), and that I could use the $700 as credit or just get a refund. His list said he had 1.3 extreme albinos for $800, so I inquired about those. He replied saying they were sold pending payment.

He deleted his ad from Fauna a couple of days later, and has made no new ads trying to sell anything or send me any of my refund.

I feel that I remained quite civil throughout the transaction, even after a few comments he made both over the phone and through email that were clearly meant to provoke me. I eventually contacted him to (sarcastically) inquire about his sales, and was told I was being uncivil, and that I should "grow up."

And so here we are now. I have all emails ready to be posted, and I will do so in a few minutes.

Taken with my phone. I'm about to get a real camera to photograph them, though. You can't see it too good (atleast not on my phone), but the females' tubs are all soaked and had very high humidity. The male's tub was dry, though.

I don't have any hogs that could replace them with. I have been selling off my collection to pay the bills since my layoff. The courier error is certainly unfortunate, I made no live arrival garuntees because there is no way to insure against it. I'm out $40.00 on the shipping and the $38.00 which was the 3% you didn't add to your paypal payment as specifically addressed in our emails . Knowing about the 3% that you didn't pay I sold them to you anyway believing it to be an oversight.also I knocked $200.00 off the lot... If you had something I needed that was worth more than I sent you (such as the snow, or an axanthic poss het albino), I was going to try working out a deal. Such as you send it to a third party, and then I pay you the difference, or we can meet up and exchange cash/snakes in person.

It was around this time that I contacted Sam from GBU Enterprises asking about a triple het (PPA Axanthic Hypo) pair of Hognose snakes he was going to be hatching next year. During our conversation we ended up talking about my deal with Mr. Dedrick. Well a few days later Dedrick calls Sam looking to buy some Hogs. Sam tells him he will not sell until he gets things right with me, so Dedrick calls me up, apologizes for everything, and says he thought I was one of Justin's friends trying to screw him around. We then worked out a deal that I would purchase the axanthic 66% het albino male he hatched out for $3,000, and that the $1,300 I spent would be used as credit. We were going to meet up at Daytona and exchange in person.

She's pretty nice! No clue what an extreme red het albino breeder would sell for. I payed around $500-600 for my normal hets if that helps any. I'd have to guess $800-900 since the extreme hets are usually about 50% more in price than a normal het.


I'd make an offer, but right now I'm paying off another group of Hogs.

All breeders, and the normals are 300-500 grams. The seller wouldn't be too happy if they found out I "bought" that axanthic in full while still paying him off, but it's not like I have much of a choice. Get it now, or risk shipping again.

I apparently misunderstood his pricing. I thought he only wanted $800 if you took all of the albinos, but he was only charging $800 if you took the entire collection. Now I know better

I let a little more time go by in hopes that he would relist the ad so I could be refunded. When he made no further attempts to sell the collection, I got a bit annoyed and sent a sarcastic email.

When messages get too long, my phone asks if I would like to download the entire message. I always choose not to in order to keep the email sizes smaller. Apparently he took this as an attempt to hide our past emails. Either that or the couple of times I replied to an old email on accident because I could not find the most recent ones. Sometimes Yahoo will find old emails and searches but not new, so I just choose the newest one the search finds.

No live arrival guarantee means no live arrival guarantee. If the terms are not available for you to read and clearly understand - its on you to ask about it and clarify it. Then you have to get it in writing, and even then you still have to hope that the seller will actually stand behind his terms of sale.

I feel for you - but you got a partial refund which a whole lot more than most get in such similar circumstances.

i agree. live arrival garuntee and TOS should have been requested and at least brought up. I would be happy that i got the 700 and drop it. Chock this up to a learning experience. Always ask about TOS

I completely agree; I should have made sure before exchanging money. I'm beyond expecting anything from them. Just putting it out there as a warning.

Especially since the snakes were already starting to smell and become hardened by the time they arrived. These are my first DOAs, but I still find it kind of odd that they would begin to decompose from an overnight trip from Texas to Louisiana.

if the heat was extreme enough (which if its hot outside it is 10 times hotter inside one of those trucks) it can greatly speed up decomposition. so it is quite possible they died during shipping and began rotting due to heat.

Is it possible he shipped you dead snakes? Sure, though I'd not like to think so ugly of people that would do such. But has it been done? I;d have to say yes.

And why is the person selling the animal to begin with? Its a fair question to ask. If the person says: "I'm unemployed and need the money to pay bills", what do you think the chances are that he is feeding his animals in front of himself? Not very good.

The UPS delivered a day late, so the seller should have recouped that loss. I believe it is against PayPal's terms for him to charge you their 3% in addition to sale price, so it's interesting that he expects you to follow his invisible TOS when he's clearly not following PayPal's.
Regardless, He said he would make it right and didn't, his word is not to be trusted.
"NO live arrival guarantee" = run like HELL.
