Hello!
Either you have not registered on this site yet, or you are registered but have not logged in. In either case, you will not be able to use the full functionality of this site until you have registered, and then logged in after your registration has been approved.
Registration is FREE, so please register so you can participate instead of remaining a lurker....
Please note that the information requested during registration will be used to determine your legitimacy as a participant of this site. As such, any information you provide that is determined to be false, inaccurate, misleading, or highly suspicious will result in your registration being rejected. This is designed to try to discourage as much as possible those spammers and scammers that tend to plague sites of this nature, to the detriment of all the legitimate members trying to enjoy the features this site provides for them.
Of particular importance is the REQUIREMENT that you provide your REAL full name upon registering. Sorry, but this is not like other sites where anonymity is more the rule.
Also your TRUE location is important. If the location you enter in your profile field does not match the location of your registration IP address, then your registration will be rejected. As such, I strongly urge registrants to avoid using a VPN service to register, as they are often used by spammers and scammers, and as such will be blocked when discovered when auditing new registrations.
Sorry about all these hoops to jump through, but I am quite serious about blocking spammers and scammers at the gate on this site and am doing the very best that I can to that effect. Trust me, I would rather be doing more interesting things with my time, and wouldn't be making this effort if I didn't think it was worthwhile.

What's your wildlife like? What I mean is, are you gonna let 'em roam or do you want an enclosed run?

The ones that aren't pullets are called 'straight run'. I'll have my wife check your chickens out later....she'll know what they are as she's caught the bug. We started with 7 chickens, which now lay almost every day, so we sell eggs for $3.00/dozen. Then she bought a brooder, so she started raising and selling chickens. Then, she bought an incubator....sigh. We're up to around 30 chickens...it's hard to tell....it goes up and down every day. I've started feeding the roosters to my boas .
Check out www.backyardchickens.com . They have a forum and lots of other crazy chicken people.
Welcome to the world of chickening!

Im building full enclosures. Between my work hours, the hawks, coons, possums, and coyotes... I can't just let them have free run.

Then you can might want a 'tractor', not a 'coop'. A tractor is smallish and can be moved around the yard, but has an attached run below or next to the roosting/ laying part.
This is an A-frame I build that'll hold about 8 full-size hens. Let me know if you want the plans.

Yup, that's why the handles are there. Both sides come off, and all four ends come off (nest boxes on top and run access on bottom). There are more pictures here. Don't flame me about that poor beardie - I stole it from a teacher's classroom and tried to save it. Kevin, chickens will naturally go up or in at night, but you gotta close the door behind them to REALLY keep the predators away...

If you want to look at some of the different breeds McMurray has a nice catalog they send out.
http://www.mcmurrayhatchery.com/stan...ed_chicks.html
I've order all my original chickens, ducks, turkeys and geese from them.
They breakdown all the meat birds, layers and duel purpose.
As for the "white ones" probably the standard leghorns. They are very good layers but I prefer the brown, blue/green egg layers
