Please note that the information requested during registration will be used to determine your legitimacy as a participant of this site. As such, any information you provide that is determined to be false, inaccurate, misleading, or highly suspicious will result in your registration being rejected. This is designed to try to discourage as much as possible those spammers and scammers that tend to plague sites of this nature, to the detriment of all the legitimate members trying to enjoy the features this site provides for them.
Of particular importance is the REQUIREMENT that you provide your REAL full name upon registering. Sorry, but this is not like other sites where anonymity is more the rule.
Also your TRUE location is important. If the location you enter in your profile field does not match the location of your registration IP address, then your registration will be rejected. As such, I strongly urge registrants to avoid using a VPN service to register, as they are often used by spammers and scammers, and as such will be blocked when discovered when auditing new registrations.
Sorry about all these hoops to jump through, but I am quite serious about blocking spammers and scammers at the gate on this site and am doing the very best that I can to that effect. Trust me, I would rather be doing more interesting things with my time, and wouldn't be making this effort if I didn't think it was worthwhile.
Yeah I am an avid Infowars listener & saw the guest on with the printable guns, etc. It is definitely going to change the course of technology. Very interesting.
The Replicator 2X, as expected, will be a bit more expensive than its little brother. You’ll be able to purchase MakerBot’s newest 3D printer for $2,799 in March. MakerBot’s alternative to enterprise solutions is comparably affordable, but it may still be out of most hobbyist’s price range. For those customers, keep an eye on Kickstarter as cheap 3D printers have flooded the crowdsourcing platform in recent months.
I think the biggest expense will be the consumables that such a printer will need. I also think there will be a very lucrative market for those people with 3D scanners that can produce and offer for sale the templates for use in such printers. This is literally a gold rush in the making.
I remember a few years back I was in a factory doing computer work. The had an industrial type 3d printer. They made a fan shroud for a motor as a template. They said the cost to the buyer was like $9000.00 I should have charged more for the work I did!
I imagine materials and templates to be outrageous at first for home market. I'm sure one day you'll see them for 200.00 on sale at bestbuy one day.
These people have been at it a good while,
there are several thousand already in position to join the ranks when it really kicks off http://www.thingiverse.com/
CNC Routers are doing pretty well in this venue as well
I'm actually looking forward to this technology maturing into a consumer product. But I will be surprised if industry in general won't try to keep this technology out of the public's hands, because it will SEVERELY impact their business if every Joe and Jill can make their own products at home when needed. Yeah, a LONG way from that day, but look at what technological marvels are available today that would have been unthinkable 30 years ago.
