Exclamation Female Bearded Dragon Fatty Tumor

I have a female bearded dragon, 5 years old, which developed a fatty tumor about 5 months ago. This was surgically removed. A few months later it grew back, but in a different form. This also surgically removed. Now this has come back a third time. Does anyone have any experience with this, how to prevent it, how to treat it? The cyst, thought not attached to any vital organs, grows rapidly and is approximately the size of an egg. It is on it's side, right above it's right leg.

Currently it's about 3 weeks since the second surgery and in the last week it has reappeared and is about 1/2 the size of a chicken egg already.

Any help you can give would be appreciate. Thanks.

Hello

Hello Cathy,

That is too bad, they are not real common. Was there a biopsy done on it to determine cancer? I assume it is benign, correct?
Was it fibrous in nature or just fatty?
Alot of tumors or lesions internally or externally are related to the virus Herpes virus. The immune system can be partially responsible for the development of Fibropapillomatosis.

I think that if it has not already been done that they need to investigate the tissue of the tumor more closely. Was Cryotherapy or Laser Ablation used at all, or just surgical excision?

Bearded Dragon Tumor

Sorry that I haven't responded sooner. Vet had complications from surgery and is still not back in the office. Because of the expense we did not do biopsy of tumor. Vet tech thinks laser was used, but I don't believe it was, again because of the cost. Tumor does not seem to be affecting her, but again has gotten very large. She has another appointment next week. Thanks for your input.

Cathy

(ps - I am passing along your information to my Vet)
