Expect a restructuring here.

Obviously this idea was a bust. The state forums are rarely used, if at all, so I can't see any sense in maintaining this any longer. Not sure exactly what I am going to do, but the state forums will, at the very least, be going away. I haven't decided if this entire category will remain here or not.

I do thank adamanteus for all the work he put into finding those links for each state forum, and I do regret that it apparently was wasted effort.

Anyway, just a heads up in case you come looking for this section and it is gone in the near future.

The state links should stay

Rich,
Although there isn't much posting going on within these threads, I still feel that they are a valuable resource. I have referred people to them on several occasions to research their state laws.

Perhaps we could set them up as just links. But I feel that it would be a real shame to just do away with them. They are an excellent resource and as legislation continues to creep up on our hobby, I feel that they will become even more important.

I have recently come across some additional information that relates directly to this forum and if given some time, I will be happy to update each and every state with the new info.

What do you think?

Mike,

I will put up just about as many forums as people ask for about mostly any pertinent topic. My only requirement is that they be used. Otherwise they are just taking up real estate and serving no purpose but to confuse people with too many options to choose from.

What I look for is any forum that does not have new posts within the last 30 days and then just ponder who would actually miss it if it were gone. When I see some of these state forums that have NEVER had any posts in them beyond the initial links thread, well, what would you think if this was your site?

So, any thread that gets a new post at least once a month will probably not show up on my radar screen. Hint, hint....

Rich,
I really think that the State threads should fall under a different category then your basic "chat-type" forums. These forums are informational in nature.

If we hold them to the same rules as the other forums, we'll end up with only a few states being represented. Logic dictates that each state should at the very least have the basic information listed for anyone who needs a reliable source of information for their individual state laws.

As I stated previously, I'll be happy to update the various state threads with new information. I really feel that with the current issues involving county and state legislation, these forums will prove to become even more valuable.

If you ultimately decide to do away with them, please give a little notice and I will copy them all to a page on my website. Then possibly you could at least leave a link to the information there.

Sound fair?

I am with you on this one, Mike.

Some forums are there for the information it contains as a benefit to the community, like care sheets. It does not necessarily need discussion to be beneficial.

Maybe we do not need each State to have a separate forum, but convert the links that are currently in each State forum into a single sticky within the Laws and Legislative Forum.

Also along the "FYI" lines, I think we need some links to places to report fraud and theft. I know most of the regs around here already know this info but the new people to this industry/hobby/internet may not. I would be more than happy to put together a list of state attorney general links and internet fraud reporting sites for this. I think it would be a valuable contribution to the site.

Well, OK. If you guys think the wood here isn't as dead as it looks to me, I will keep them on until they appear to be even MORE dead then they already are. Does that sound OK?

Rich,

I agree with Mike. There may not be posts to those forums, but they're referred to frequently.

It might help if someone volunteered to keep particular states updated with relevant news about or proposed changes to any laws within that state. If you think that would help to keep more current information available, I'll certainly volunteer for Missouri.

Rich, do what you want with this info. Move it to a more apporpriate place, delete it or whatever you want. I just hink it would be a good thing to have somwhere on this site.

I guess whatever it takes. I guess I am just getting tired of looking at forums on this site with a pitiful number of posts after such a long time of being here. I would think that even just one person out of the 17,000 registered here would be able to find time to post in any of the forums here and make them fruitful. It would be a whole lot less cluttered by having just a single forum for State issues and have a separate THREAD where there are now separate forums.

Really, all I am asking is that you all SHOW me that you want these forums to be here, not TELL me. That's all that I am looking for.

Shrap, it would take me ALL day to cut and paste that info into the separate forums where they should go. Which, quite honestly, I am not going to do. In fact, you are basically proving my point that consolidating all of those forums into one catchall forum might be the best thing to do here.
