PURE ALBINO SURINAME REDTAILS - YES - PURE - one of a kind
History lesson! There have been 3 possibly 4 Albino Suriname Red Tails that we know of. The first one was imported back in 1998/1999 or so by Burgundy Reptiles and we had the privilege of unpacking it when they picked it up at the airport in Miami. He came by Zoological Imports 2000, Inc, when it was around, to sell some of the normal stuff out of the shipment and we happened to be there. It was a 3.5ft male that promptly latched on to my arm. It went to Will Slough for $50k!! and never did much of anything and eventually died years later. The second we know of was passed around alot, and no one really did anything with it. It also was a larger albino male found in Suriname wild. Who it ended up with it, we do not know. Last we heard it was also deceased. A third was rumored to be in Europe, but also disappeared from the hobby, but it may have been the one mentioned secondly, and rumor has it, it was in Europe first before coming here or vice versa, dont remember correctly. The 3rd or 4th one that we know of, was sold a few years ago but died as well! It was full of tick scars and parasites from what we were told. So far, they have all been males, and all have been found as larger wild caughts that did not adjust very well to captivity.
DRUM ROLL!!!!!!! We just got in 2 BABY ALBINO SURINAME FEMALES born to our lucky exporter from a female he had setup for ranching. Talk about luck!! Speaking of LUCK, we acquired the entire litter after negotiations, delays, permit issues, etc,The litter was 2 albinos, and 12 possible hets!!! 2 out of 3 should be 100% hets .There was a 3rd albino that was still born, and 2 possible hets that were stillborn, 3 unfertilized ova as well. Keep in mind, they haven't even shed yet in photo.
At the moment we are not keeping them, but are VERY TEMPTED.

These two albinos came from a gravid female our exporter held back in Suriname for her to drop.

Both Albinos are pictured. Both are in shed in photo, but have since taken a meal each with no hesitation. Smelled the rodent and went right after it.
All siblings have eaten as well, some have not shed yet.
