And this is the difference between a mistake and a real scammer. A real scammer would never make it right and publicly apologize. Honest mistakes can happen and I think we all understand that. Ryan, good on you for being decent and fixing it. Glad it worked out for you guys!
In terms of your question, Tom, about going after a scammer - no that's not too harsh if it's really a scammer IMHO. A person who preys on others and steals money/animals/people's faith in humanity pretty much deserves getting paid back in kind. We've had plenty of real scammers around the herp world; I don't think anyone would shed a tear if they had some IRL consequences.
