Exclamation mouth rot?

how do you determine if you reptile has mouth rot, and also how does the wet towl shedding technique work i apprietate anything to help me out.

Not to oversimplify, but - you look in it's mouth. Mouth rot, aka infectious stomatitis, is usually a secondary infection. Initially (before you know about it), there will be a reddened area, which will then start to change in appearance...looking almost like a small scrape. By the time we recognize problem, it has usually advanced to the point that there is caseous* material in the ulceration (* off-whitish to pale tan clumps of stuff, frequently with a cottage cheese type of consistency). If allowed to progress, there will be swelling as the infection impacts more tissue...even bone in advanced cases. At this point, the animal will likely not be closing its mouth all the way.

As for the wet towel to assist shedding - nothing fancy...just soak a towel, wring it out, and put it in with the snake. Personally, I prefer soaking. What kind of python are you working with?

a african rock python, he just shed for me last night but im still worried about the mouth rot it is a little grey on the inside of his mouth.

how did you come to see the inside of its mouth? did you go looking, or did it open wide and say AHHHH?

i went looking, i have started to wash out his mouth with non flavor mouth wash, this snake was in horrible condition when i got him. he was 4 1/5 feet long and weighed about 700 grames and now he weighs about 1000. he also had mites and i treated him for that but i went back to the pet store of where i got my afrock and saw mites crawling on the other rep's. he was dehydrated. thanks for all your help
