Yellow Jacket Control ?

Steve was stung recently by yellow jackets, so I've been keeping an eye out because I don't want the same to happen to me. I remember years ago getting stung and he nest appeared to be underground near my back fence, I soaked the area in pesticides and they did not bother me again.
Today I was sitting in the back yard with the dogs and saw 2 yellow jackets within 10 feet of me. Should I be worried that there is a nest? Over the years I've gradually used less pesticides, now I only use them to control fire ants. So, I'm not sure what to do. I don't want to just zap my whole 1/4 acre with pesticides because I've got bugs and toads and want them to stay and live here.
What would you do?

GASOLINE!

Soak the yard and light.

I found a trap at Lowes that I hung in the dogwood tree above where the nest was that I stumbled upon. It's called a WHY trap, part of the rescue line. It includes an attractant and a food source. Once they clim in, they cannot get out.
It works with everything except honey bees.
So far a few yellow jackets and a blask wasp/hornet has found their way in and died.

There's a pipeline under the back part of the yard. I'd kill every jacket on the gulf coast

Thanks for the Lowe's trap advice, I'll go get a few.

Haha, my redneck method consists of a can of WD-40 and a match, but with that pipeline that's probably not a great idea. Those traps sound good (and environmentally sound)!

Bit of an old thread, but good old black knight roach spray works great on all insects, yellow jackets included. No fire needed.
