Hello!
Either you have not registered on this site yet, or you are registered but have not logged in. In either case, you will not be able to use the full functionality of this site until you have registered, and then logged in after your registration has been approved.
Registration is FREE, so please register so you can participate instead of remaining a lurker....
Please note that the information requested during registration will be used to determine your legitimacy as a participant of this site. As such, any information you provide that is determined to be false, inaccurate, misleading, or highly suspicious will result in your registration being rejected. This is designed to try to discourage as much as possible those spammers and scammers that tend to plague sites of this nature, to the detriment of all the legitimate members trying to enjoy the features this site provides for them.
Of particular importance is the REQUIREMENT that you provide your REAL full name upon registering. Sorry, but this is not like other sites where anonymity is more the rule.
Also your TRUE location is important. If the location you enter in your profile field does not match the location of your registration IP address, then your registration will be rejected. As such, I strongly urge registrants to avoid using a VPN service to register, as they are often used by spammers and scammers, and as such will be blocked when discovered when auditing new registrations.
Sorry about all these hoops to jump through, but I am quite serious about blocking spammers and scammers at the gate on this site and am doing the very best that I can to that effect. Trust me, I would rather be doing more interesting things with my time, and wouldn't be making this effort if I didn't think it was worthwhile.

The temp outside could be -5 and that doesn't mean the temp inside the box
I get so sick of hearing well the low tonight is 29 so don't ship i don't want an animal at 29 degrees.
why folks think the outside temp is going to be the same as the inside of the box is beyond me.
the company also states no more then one warmer per package unless the package is bigger then said dimensions.

Shipping critters in very low temps can turn out badly for the critter. A package can get lost or slowed down, and then the critter could get too cold. Or, some people overcompensate and overheat the package. Many times it is just better to wait until outside temps are more propitious.

yea...
and the point of my post was the outside temp does not reflect the temp on the inside of the box...

I am sorry the tortoise died. It died because the shipper used 4 heat packs, when one would've been sufficient; that combined with the aluminum coated Styrofoam spelled disaster.
For search purposes, what was her phone number? Email address?

For herps in general, that is true, but I should mention it would have been virtually impossible to kill this species from punctuated cold unless it was literally frozen solid because of what horsfieldii can endure. In this case, the excessive heat can be confidently considered the cause. Your overall message is solid, of course, although I wanted to weigh in on the species (I kept and bred it for ages until I stopped working with them heavily). Russian tortoises tend to be very hardy. So hardy that it could have been shipped without a heat pack during the dead of winter throughout most of the US and it would have likely started to resume normal activity within the day it arrived. When healthy to begin with, they are astoundingly tough. To kill one this way is very sad and outright neglect would have had a superior result.
This looks like vendor ineptitude and I would expect a vendor to take responsibility for such a grievous error in shipping methodology/execution.

This is 100% the seller's fault. I'm sorry to hear about your experience and that the seller is washing their hands of this, and also of course sorry for the poor animal that died because of someone who has no business shipping animals doing so.

Poor tortoise! Totally the seller's fault - obviously through ignorance and inexperience and not malice, but that is no excuse to not take responsibility for baking the tortoise.
Did you pay in a manner that you can dispute? (credit card, paypal?). The seller really needs to refund you 100%. Sorry to hear that you are out the tortoise and the money.

Highly suggest only buy turtles when the weather is permitted.
Anyways, seller(shipper) should take full responsibility on the loss.

Yes. It’s not often to see a CB sub-adult Russian tortoise , I feel very upset to lost him.

No one want to see a accident like this. What’s worse, her attitude hurts
