Rescue Monitor Help........

As some people may know we (Herpetological Breeding Research) conducts numerous reptile related rescues each year. We recieve no funding and rarely ask for donations. However, this year we've had more than usual. At no time do we sell rescues. If we cannot provide a home for them they are sent to schools or approved facilities for no cost. We recently were contacted by an importer who had an injured water monitor that he wanted to offer for a rescue. It is a Malaysian Water Monitor(V. Salvator) We got him in 4 days ago. He's a little over 7 feet and 70 lbs.!! He has a major wound on his left front leg which has gone septic. Several of his toes were recently amputated and infected. Plus mutiple secondary wounds that are bad but not yet infected. Tri-County Animal Hospital and staff have been kind enough to assist in this rescue but, there are still expenses. We have placed the specimen through initial emergency treatment . He was anestitized with Florene Gas and we were able to debride and clean the leg wound as well as treat the mutiples of other injuries. He's doing much better now and is alert and feeding on his own. We are still awaiting lab results and i'm sure he's not completely "out of the woods" yet. So far the bills are up to 700.00 for care to date. We usually conduct all our rescues in house. However, this was one specimen that it would have be unfeasable to conduct initial treatment in house. He will NOT be offered for sale. We plan to provide a spacious safe home for him. It's sad to see an incredible creature of this magnitude treated so badly. We could use donations to help pay for his care. If you wish to help by all means please contact us. We will follow through with his care irregardless of lack of funds. We will find a way but, everything helps. For more details or questions you can contact me at the following: 772-519-1376 e-mail-hrpbrdrsch@netzero.net or www.herpbreedingresearch.com Thanks Ray G.
